A 44 was my first “magnum” handgun. I am sure I am not alone there. What takes a guy to the 45 is the versatility and bullet options. That and the high customization possibilities of the single action (for me anyway). Now half of the threads on here are about .475 and up, which is great! I think the 44 is still as great as it was when I got the first one. Just gets overlooked. It’s like a caliber that you graduate from.
We can’t go back to before we graduated to play football again and relive the glory days, but we can all appreciate busting out the 44 on occasion!

Lobo, that is a beautiful 44! Love the 5" Smith's. To have one in blue without the stupid lock is awesome.

Has anybody got any pictures of custom 44 mag? Pictured from Top to Bottom: Custom SBH, Vintage 1962; All-Original SBH, Vintage 1960; and All-Original BH, (.41 Mag.). Taken Back When I First Started.-Bill

Size doesn't seem to matter when it comes to recoil, it's really a mental thing. There used to be some occasional photo's of a small, beautiful lady on some of the forums that hunted all over the world with a full house Freedom Arms 454. I think she was famous for making high end jewelry, can't remember but she probably wasn't 120 lbs & had taken a lot of big game with that 454 & heavy loads. The flip side is, some big guys don't take the time to learn the basics, work their way into a flinch & shoot mild loads that wouldn't knock a hole in a wet Kleenex. Our sport demands patience working up to the big bores & many times the grand old 44 magnum will work on 90% of what we shoot, for the other 10% there are the other bigger calibers mentioned. And yes, they are bigger hammers with correct bullets. Learn to master a caliber you can shoot well & then move up the ladder, don't try to match "uncle Joe" just to be the macho man! Again, if the 44 magnum & quality loads won't get you there, you're facing a mighty big animal because it's already taken about every animal on earth & we also know that the lowly 9mm has recently taken large bears in Alaska. Many decades ago the Eskimos hunted Polar Bears with the outstanding & powerful 22 Hornet!

It started life as an old model flat top 6 1/2" 44 mag an David did all the work to convert it to the bisley with a 5 1/2" barrel, Turnbull coloring and David has a person he uses who did the grips. Bowen provided the rear sight.

I have owned this 44 SBH for 38 years and this is what it did yesterday at 25 yards indoor from a rest with 240gr JHP and 24 gr of 296. Both groups are 5 shot groups. Pretty reliable gun... ***** eskimo36.... yes, this is some of what happens with a .44 Magnum. David Bradshaw
