What's your opinion of this gun? It's an entire metric butttonne of money for a 22, so what are your thoughts? Especially compared to the rest of your collection. (these pop up once in a while and they're such a temptation!) From all the tests of this model I have seen, every tester declared it the most accurate .22 handgun they have ever shot. It's one of those you do get what you pay for. This is my second FA 97 .22. The first one was a no options 5.5" that I got off GunBroker for $1500...it didn't even have a box. I really wanted one with black Micarta grips and a Magnum cylinder and just kept looking. There was one on GB at Christmas time 2015 with a 4.25" barrel and round butt black Micarta that was a perfect match to the 97 .41 Magnum I have. By the time I gathered the money to get it someone else had grabbed it... This one came up for sale a few months later. It was "used" in that it had been sold by one of the big online dealers and a few months later traded back in still unfired with the original warranty card. They discounted it $300 over the original price... So I bought it and sold the plain 5.5" for a little more than I paid for it.. As to being worth it... I've had at least 10 other .22 singles actions of several different makes. None lived up to my accuracy expectations and were sold. The FA, USFA and Ruger Hunter all put the bullets from either the Long Rifle or Magnum cylinder right where the sights are when the hammer drops. I have only had the Virginian a few months and have only gotten to shoot it twice but it seems to be in the same category. To me the FA 97 is worth it especially if you have a FA centerfire gun... The Bearcat hasn't even been fired yet but to me it is just going to be a fun plinker. I just took it apart a few minutes ago and cleaned it and I would be surprised if it had a box of ammo through it... The USFA FTT was purchased about four to five years before the company went under. It was "used" but unfired and sat in a big shop near home for several months before I bought it....no one wanted a $1500 .22. I ended up getting it with a sale coupon for $1350.00. I've only seen three more 5.5s, one 4.75" and one or two 7.5s for sale. Since these guns were only made to order I wonder how many .22s were made... There is one on GB now for $3K...7.5" Magnum cylinder only and no box. I'm sure the .22 LR cylinder is in the box somewhere as all of these came with both cylinders. The Hunter I bought as a "survival" gun. It is as accurate as a rifle and can be stored in a backpack. It is also the only dual cylinder Ruger S-S I have ever owned that will shoot Long Rifle ammo just about as accurately as Magnums. Thanks for posting all of yours.... Bob

Nice bunch of guns there. Very nice!!!!!
I have quite a few .22 SA revolvers,,, (10 Bearcats alone,)so pictures would be a chore.
But I have a 17 cal Hunter convertible,,, and it too is a tack driver. I don't have the 22 Hunter,,, but rest assured,,, it's only because one hasn't fallen my way yet. I do have a few of the OM Ruger RSS9's that are very accurate too. And I have shot a FA in .22. Again,,, a great gun!

There is one on GB now for $3K...7.5" Magnum cylinder only and no box. I'm sure the .22 LR cylinder is in the box somewhere as all of these came with both cylinders. I had that USFA FTT 7.5 .22 that is offered at $3k now on GB. Great gun of course but for me, I didn't want to have that much equity tied up in something and the USFA market struck me as rather permanently illiquid and a bit gamed by the say 3 gunbroker storefronts that have stepped in as USFA brokers these last few years. So late last summer I picked what I thought was a realistic price ... a price good for seller (me) and buyer.... to make it liquid within a short amount of time... $2k.... and I sold it one time around on GB. This storefront that has it now bought it, and they've since marked it up another $1k (I think they'll be sitting on it a few years...it would be different if it was a centerfire.) No doubt it was originally a convertible, but it was missing the lr cylinder when I got it. I located one from another Plinker model while I had it, and sold it with both cylinders. The .22 lr cylinder is not numbers matching of course, and this seller now chooses to sell the gun without it such that a non numbers matching cylinder would diminish the presentation of this piece at their retail price. Kinda hinky.

S&W K22 (I know...leather is dry and in need of repair) High Standard GE (super gun, imo, but only standard velocity) FA M97 In regards to comments on the 97...accurate, heavy, trigger needs work, and though I am not a fan of FA's current rear sights, it is less obnoxious on the 97 than on the 83 (imho). Once I get the trigger right, it will be my favorite because accuracy trumps other minor objections (and the HS won't last with "hunting" 22s).

I like full size .22s a great deal. A bunch of Great Westerns here, but Jagers and Ubertis and ASMs and Piettas in here too, I've owned them of every make (I stay away from the German ones, though they are certainly adequate). Uberti ran a bunch of full size .22s the last few years, 6 shots and 12 shots. The 6 shots must not have sold well, they are being closed out on GB by a few sellers now at $329. I wouldn't mind one, but I have 10 full size .22s already...

Bob Speaking of the 83, they are too wide, blocking out too much down range for my eye. I am not convinced they hold the horizontal all that well either (no proof, but adjustment has been required a time or two). I prefer the silhouette style rear that I believe used to be standard, as below.

That Hi Standard GE is awesome. I have become a real fan of the E models especially with that bull barrel. Gorgeous grips. Yea, I know. It doesn't have a cylinder. Still sweet.
And still my fav 22 sixgun is my S&W model 17 with 8 3/8" barrel and target grips. Accurate out to 100 yards plus !!! Ringing long distance steel with a 22 will put a grin on your face every time.

Yep,,, fully aware of that. And I knew it when I was offered it for sale. I couldn't buy it fast enough.
I have 8-9 High Standards in 22 auto as well. Those guns are excellent shooters too!

I have for years since selling my new at the time 3 screw single six, rely'd on my MKI and later MKII's for all my rimfire duties. But just a couple month's ago when I seen these available on the Ruger Forums I had to have one. Hell I almost bought 2, I liked the Bearcat and it is an awesome revolver for a trapper in particular, but the grip and my huge paw just don't get along. Kinda the same with the other SS after years shooting the FA's and Bisley's. This just fit the bill perfect for me.
