I'm only looking for 800 FPS with a 250 out of my 3 inch GP100 44.. If I need more I'll look for a magnum. FWIW at 25 feet I'm seeing some vertical stringing because my eyes can't see the top of the front sight. Outside that it is a one holer with PMC 180 grain JHPs.. Picking up 500 250K hard cast bullets ASAP.

I went and reviewed the data from the HL article and there are indeed some good loads in the 15.5k psi range, including the PP load you posted, Ezekiel.

Dougader: I've shot at least a 1,000 rds of that load in several 44s. 44 Mags and Specials. Smiths and Rugers and the load shoots tight groups in all of them. It is my general purpose load for 44.

Well with this being my first .44 caliber wheelie, and with me always touching up the forcing cone on my revolvers I was very surprised to see how off center the forcing cone on this revolver is. My plan was to just barely trim it at 11 degrees until it cut all around and usually this is very easy to accomplish. This time I got it to clean up 80% all around after cutting more than I wanted to on this already thin shank. I will shoot it now to see how it groups. I shot 100 240 grain XTP's after firelapping to help smooth the bore and it grouped fairly large, maybe 3" at 20 yards. I blamed it on the throats but after seeing this I suspect the off center forcing cone is much more to blame. I have trimmed dozens of them and this is by far the worst one. Sorry, I know my pics are not the best. Top pic shows the right side almost cleaned up with blueing still visible right at the start of the cone, and bottom pic shows the left side cut heavy. On my gun there was very little actual cone as it came from the factory. I have loaded some Accurate 23-250M (245 round flat nose) sized to .434 on top of 15 grains of 2400 that I will shoot for groups. My fingers are certainly crossed!

Magpouch What does your chamber throats & bore measure? Man, the negatives keep rolling in about this GP-44 I'm almost starting to feel sad I bought one without even having it yet!?!? If I don't like what I see it'll be going back and I'll be after a Smith 69. I'll just have a helluva time trying to decide on 2.75" or 4.25"!!!? Damn it anyhoo!!! Does anyone know how to go about or, ever had to use the Davidson Warranty?? BigBore44

S&W guns are not without their problems, too, but I agree with your feelings about this, BigBore44. That S&W 69 is looking pretty nice, and I lean toward the one with the 2-3/4" barrel. I love them shorties!

My gun measures as follows:
Throats are .434 Bore is .416 with a hint of thread choke (it's fixed now) grooves are .431

So does a guy need to size his cast bullets to .434+ to get the best accuracy? Those are sloppy loose, are they not?

Well originally I THOUGHT the throats were a bit on the large side, but I DID NOT feel it would affect accuracy. I had some thread choke so had been slowly fire lapping. The last stage for me was to fire 100 jacketed to try to smooth everything out. I am not a great shot, but at the same time I was working on this gun with the jacketed, I was playing with my "new" Blackhawk in .327 Mag and having a VERY good go with it.
The .44 GP100 was not grouping well with the XTP's and I figured it must be the throats. NOW I feel it is the forcing cone.
I'll keep playing with it, that's half the fun right?

As it stands now, it bothers me not in the least to cast and size to .434 if that is what it takes. Goes with the territory.

Yeah, the .434 isn't my issue. I have a mold that drops just that so no worries there. Ahhh, I'll wait and see how mine is once the background check/amendment crap is done... I'm still (for now) happy to be getting one. If it don't work out well than, it won't be the first to be sent down the road... Keeping me fingers crossed BigBore44

Magpouch I didn't read back too far But, did you shoot this GP-44 a bunch to see its accuracy potential before "fixin" things or, did you get it and start measuring and tinkering first? Thanks and good luck getting it where you want it to be... BigBore44

For revolvers I shoot my cast bullets 99.9%, so I usually check a few things before I shoot, thread constriction being among the first things. Its pretty cold in Maine right now so I haven't had a lot of opportunity to do much more than just shoot my firelappers quickly. Generally I will group them as I shoot and many times will see groups shrink as I shoot each cylinder. I just didn't get to do that with this gun due to time and weather. I HOPE I have the gun to where I can start trying to get it to group, but again I am not a great shot and until it warms up a bit most of my shooting will be off hand in the snow This is an interesting gun so far for sure...

Thanks for sharing your findings. Very helpful. Do you shoot from just one cylinder at a time when you shoot your firelapping rounds?

Does anyone know how to go about or, ever had to use the Davidson Warranty?? BigBore44 I've used it 3 times over the years. Just last week, got a Kahr CW45 back with a new frame -- was long out of Kahr warranty (cost - $12.99). The other two were replaced with a new gun directly from Davidson's (at no cost). I think the $12.99 comes into play after a time limitation (30 days maybe??-can't remember). Make sure you register the gun on Davidson's website ( galleryofguns.com )although I'm pretty sure Davidson has a data base of all the guns they've sold (at least recently). Couldn't remember if I'd registered the Kahr, so I emailed Davidson's. Got an immediate reply that it was one of theirs and covered under their warranty. Your dealer should contact his/her Davidson's sales rep and tell them you have a gun that needs to be returned under warranty. Hope that helps. Paul
