gunsmagazine.com/tag/hornady/Not too terribly bad, though, 2.5" to 3.6" IIRC, at 25 yards with Speer Gold Dots, Hornday 180 Critical Defense, and Buffalo Bore "heavy" 200 grains Barnes copper bullet. I certainly wouldn't take a shot at a deer past 35 yards with those numbers, but a bad guy in your face or at your bedroom door would be a reasonable target. I would also wring out my personal gun to see what kind if accuracy I could consistently maintain before hunting deer at any distance, or for use as a defensive weapon.

I think that the accuracy will be much better than the tests that we are seeing if properly sized bullets are used. I have one of the new GP's here and the cyl throats on this one are .4325, about the same as my .44 special flattops and they will not pull nice tight groups without using .432-.433 sized bullets .

So new owners who have a GP-44 already. Any ideas on what type/brand and size for a replacement F-sight on these? I'd like to go with a night sight preferably. I surely like the XS big dot to. YMMV Thanks BigBore44

My head is thinking something like the Trijicon HD front and a Bowen Rough Country rear... Time will tell.

Axe Do you think that the trijicon will sit in the dovetail better? I mean that F-sight looks HIDEOUS! I hear most are the same, so I'm trying to get ahead of the curve of this! Are them dovetails Novak cut or no? I'm not remembering what the Novak looks like.. Thanks Ray

Axe, I don't know what it's like at your house but here in the swamp the first question my wife asks is "what does this one need"? She's being totally sarcastic. It's hard to get it into her head that no factory offering comes to me without needing something. Whether it be grips, sights, springs etc. she just can't understand paying hundreds of dollars for something and then spending another couple hundred more to make it "right".

I'm going to have to feel out this front sight thing... I'll keep my ear to the ground and yell if I hear of something that will fit properly... Still thinking Bowen Rough Country for the rear..

On these gun writer reviews: Accuracy is only as good as what you feed a gun and what the shooter is capable of. I have proper molds to fit most any combination I come across. Depend on the factory to provide that and you're usually out of luck. If I can't hit inside a tennis ball at 35 to 40 yards two handed standing on a fast shot, something is wrong.
I guess I got lucky on this one, my front sight fits right and is quite usable with the rear as set up. I like the combination. The action is one of the best Ruger actions I've had.... the two before aren't anything to write nice things about though.
