Fermin, the guy who thought up the 429215 wanted absolutely NO changes to the design and that was what was done. It has the standard Lyman unsupported nose. It could have used some as it doesn't shoot as well as the 640's. The Lyman 429383 on the other hand is a SUPERB accuracy bullet (but relatively useless for game) in the 44 Special, along with some others. Bob, come to think of it, that "guy" was probably ME!!

We already have the 434640... That's true. This is what happens when you have so many molds you lose track. Thanks for reminding me. Does anyone remember what the nose to crimp was for the 434640?

As soon as you posted that, I knew I had that mold, only mine has 432640 on it. I believe Miha may have offered it in different diameters however. My rough measurements show that bullet to have a .400" or so nose. My rough calculations tell me a standard 44 Special cylinder would accommodate a .500 nose plus or minus a bit. So, how about we wait and see what Bob comes up with. He is really really good at this.... fermin

Fermin, what you want will probably produce a heavy bullet. The 44 Special, even a Blackhawk, will probably not like that too well... as far as effectiveness (I'm not a big bluff nose non expanding bullet fan, especially in the lower powered cartridges). You're probably less than mid range 44 Mag ballistics here. Is that what you're going for?

Really wanting a bullet in hollowpoint configuration that weighs no more than 250-260 grains with the excellent long range accuracy the 640 shape brings to the table. Target velocity is 1200 -1250 fps. Hoping the increased case capacity will keep pressures down.

Actually, a 235 grain HP 640 design with the crimp groove moved back to get more bullet out of the case would be cool beans.

2D...know it isn't a HP but a friend of mine who is a big .44 Special shooter bought the Accurate Molds 43-235V after seeing how the same bullet in .41, the 41-215V, shot in my guns. Have tested it out to 100 yards and shows no indication of tipping...nice round holes... ..can't get a bigger meplat without being a wadcutter.. www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=43-235V-D.pngBob

Matt's has a 250gr and now a 275gr HP in 44. Neither a SWC based bullet. Maybe close to what you're asking for ? I have and like the 250gr HP's. He is using soft enough lead for expansion. Do not know the mold designations. I know the 250gr one has more than average left above the case. So the 275gr.. ?

Groo here PLEASE put a second crimp groove on so we normal gies have a lever friendly bullet also. [not everyone shoots a long cylinder gun] I to would like a normsl weight solid with the option of a large HP to reduce weight and allow higher speeds.

Fermin, you have an e-mail
Groo, this isn't a normal bullet.... can't do the second crimp groove with the conditions Fermin laid out. It is for 44 Special Ruger Blackhawks mainly and I don't have the S&W cylinder lengths to queck for them, but they should fit also. It can be used in a rifle if you trim the Mag brass or use Special cases. In the special, loaded OAL would be 1.57" and max OAL for the Special out of the manuals says 1.615". Max length for the Blackhawks would have produced a 278 gr. bullet.
