I got my Ruger .480 Bisley back last night for the third time. My front sight was canted to the right when looking through the rear sight. And for the third time, I pulled it out of the box and compared it to my .44 SBH, my Single Six, and my BFR and it still is canted. The other three are perfectly straight. And despite the tech replacing the barrel and the sight base, and being the same person to work on it all 3 times, it's still not right. So I emailed a strong note on the Ask The CEO site and called this morning to send it back again.
I'm done. This is the 4th return and I've had enough. I asked for a refund. They mentioned they might offer a replacement or a different model. I'm so frustrated that I really don't want another Bisley. I might request a .480 Super Redhawk, but I also might just take the refund and go buy the .475 Linebaugh BFR.
What would you guys do? Maybe the front sight shouldn't be such a big deal, but I'm tired of the run around. I want a .480/.475 so what do you guys think? Whitworth?

If they are willing to give you a SRH that would be my choice.

I bought a brand new Ruger "Lemon" once. The bores for the action screws were drilled out of alignment.
Ruger offered me the option to exchange or upgrade. I took the upgrade & they sent what is probably the nicest Ruger that I own.

You just got a lemon. I would ask them to replace it entirely. If you happen to like RedHawks, go for it. I personally hate the size/bulk of RedHawks. Chanced are you'll get a better gun if they just replace the bisley with another bisley. RedHawks can have their problems too, and since they are more complex, the chances of having a Redhawk problem is no less.

I'd rather have a BFR over a Super Red.
But I'm a single action guy for the most part.
Sure hate you getting the run around. My Bisley has been great.

Wow! That is definitely something upper management needs to know about. I've sent a few back and each time it has come back right on the money. I don't blame you a bit for being frustrated. Super Red is a good gun but then again I regularly say the same about Blachawks.

4 times for a sight! I would be beyond pissed after the 2nd time. I as well like redhawks but not enough to buy one, I am a SA guy at heart and when it comes to DA/SA I only go with S&W's. I don't own a BFR I don't know much about them, you guys on here probably know a lot more than me about em, but they look goos, have a good, rep and can be upgraded the tolerances etc seem much like a poor mans FA. I would get upper mgmt. involved and get what you paid for or better from them. Ruger's gun prices go up every year and quality seems to go down, regarding grips, fitment, sights, I always take them apart and am amazed by the amount of tool marks and stings of metal inside the newer guns compared to even older NM's.

Sorry to hear about your sight problems. I too had to send a ruger back several times only to never get it fixed correctly. My issues cost ruger several thousand bucks in lost revenue that went to S&W instead. With any luck, Magnum Research will have your winning ticket.

Maybe the front sight shouldn't be such a big deal, but I'm tired of the run around. I want a .480/.475 so what do you guys think? Whitworth? You're a more patient man than I am. I went through this about 15 years ago over a 45 Blackhawk that had two chambers bored off center and off axis along with a very poorly fit grip frame. Those two chambers would print 16 MOA away from the other four, which actually grouped pretty good. Ruger fixed the grip frame on the first trip, but argued that the gun's accuracy was 'within specifications' for the model. This was right at deer season so I indexed-up the four 'good' chambers and killed a fat doe with it. Then I cleaned it, boxed it up and shipped it back on my dime, along with a copy of the sales receipt and a note saying "Refund ONLY. Sender will NOT accept return shipment." They mailed a check and I have not purchased a new Ruger since. It pains me to read of your trouble, Amigo. I've got the itch for a 480 myself and was seriously considering one of the new Bis-hawks. Much as I like the Bisley grip, I think your odds of getting a good BFR are far better.

Well a refund would be my preferred choice. But if all they offered was a replacement I would have higher confidence in a SRH than a different Bisley given all the issues he's had.

That's why I'm leaning towards an SRH. I have two and they're great. Hell, all my other Ruger stuff is great! Hence my disappointment. They're usual MO has provided me excellent firearms and service.

Why did you initially purchase the Ruger .480 Bisley?
I'm guessing that it was what you wanted.
What's the chances of receiving two Ruger .480 Bisley lemons in a row?
I would contact Ruger & request a nice hand selected model. They sent me a very nice replacement when I had a problem.
Never cared for the Super RedHawk. The original RedHawk is nice.

"...But Tek4260 had a thread here where he got a lemon replacement worse than the one he sent in."
Wow! I wouldn't have thought that would ever happen.
Sounds like you are finally being taken care of properly. Good luck with the new one.
