If the casings stick they need burnished, Ruger had an issue with that early on in the 480s. For your sake I hope it was a fluke!

Damn it... The Hornady 325 grain factory ammo stuck too. Well, shoot fellas, now what do I do? Send it back? It seems like it's not all 6 chambers. I'm just irritated by all the back and forth with the factory.

You can get a cylinder hone usually 400 or 800 grit for around $22.00 and just hone them, it's quick, put it in your drill, 5 or 6 passes in each cylinder, clean up and you should be done. Alternative is a dremel with the cotton wheels and put some 220/320/600 grit lapping compound on and do it that way, I've done it both ways. Good luck man.

Was really hoping they'd have gotten it right for you.

Have you used the "Tell the CEO" link? I'd recommend a letter to him as well as a link to this thread included. I used it and had 3 different managers calling shortly thereafter asking questions about my revolvers. I get the feeling they were preparing for a conference on the matter. Not mine in particular, but maybe there was a trend that needing addressing. ruger.com/dataProcess/tellTheCEO/

I've been working with the same manager and she has been in touch with her superiors who are taking an active role. I left her a message yesterday, and when I called her this morning to tell her that the factory ammo stuck, she told me her manager had told her yesterday, "If the factory ammo sticks, bring it back in." She sounded flustered, not from me, but because she stated that she knew the gun had been inspected thoroughly and should not have been allowed to leave with any type of issue like this. She and I are of total agreement there. I feel bad for her, she's been very gracious and none of this is any of her fault. Her customer service has been nothing short of perfection. She said she was unsure what to do for me and offered a refund or a replacement. I honestly want to put my faith in Ruger, so I asked if it was an issue that could be fixed. She said she was certain it was fixable and was more than happy to overnight the gun back. Realistically. We have a few bad chambers and/or a bad cylinder. I can't see this not being correctable. They fixed a sticky extractor on my .454 SRH and had it back within 2 weeks, so I can't see this being much different. I also told her, truthfully that the gun had shot very well at the range, accuracy wise, and had one of the best crown jobs on a gun I've ever seen come out of a factory (custom shops are not a fair comparison). So I like this fun and feel it's a good replacement. If we solve the stick extraction it is indeed a winning solution. I'm gonna let the boys in the shop do their thing and see what happens.

And the latest bit of frustrating news is that despite sending the video of sticky extraction on the Hornady ammo, the technician put forty rounds of Hornady ammo down range and the cases just slid out of the cylinder.
He saw the video of mw having the problem but can't reproduce it. Dammit! Now what?! I asked for what replacement or refund options I have and they are going to email me back. But I am leaning towards getting a refund and buying a BFR in .475 Linebaugh.
Thoughts gentlemen?

I think you have put enough patience & effort into this, sometimes, it's just time to move on. I don't own a BFR so I can't say based on quality, etc a lot of you guys have them or experience with them, based on what I've read and seen on their site, they look actually quite good, and with the order options and reasonable cost, to me it's like a cheaper FA.

And yet people still try to defend Ruger for putting out crap in the first place by saying "Don't worry, Ruger will take care of it" Just came to the conclusion I will never buy another Ruger again based on this topic and the fact the last three I purchased had to go back. Am almost afraid to shoot my .480, it looks so good in the box.

I rolled the dice on a barely-used New Vaquero last week and am thanking my lucky stars it was good all around. I'm perplexed they would roll out the long-awaited 454/480 series w/o killing the gremlins first. I know Ruger can make a good revolver.

Sure we all recognize that Lipsey's works hard to provide interesting offerings for the Ruger enthusiast. Generally these limited runs seem to have a perceived quality level that is greater than Ruger's run-of-the-mill production (very pleased with the 45 convertible flat top in hand). From the feedback of the latest batch of Bisley 454/480's that does not seem to have held true in this case which is too bad. Understand that all are pleased to have had Ruger listen and produce these 5-shot Bisleys but is my perception also held by others?

To answer simply...No.
Im not going to use this s the measuring stick for QC. For those that would never buy a Ruger due to this are probably buying a car that will recalled routinely. I love how people read a few bad things and they declare the whole company "crap". Give me a break. All drama and rhetoric. Your money, your right to spend it. I support your right to go elsewhere. I'd also categorize it as an emotional overreaction.

I don't use this one example, I use it as one of several. I'm not just disappointed at Ruger but several of the large companies. Not because if someone else getting a gun quality control should have caught but personal purchases. My last was a Ruger that was ordered for me by local gun shop. I took it but wouldn't if it hadn't been order for me. The next one he got that was ordered for someone else wasn't any better. It is frustrating to have to send one back to any company. When they let things get by quality control the customers are stuck with issues to deal with. Even if problem is fixed first trip back it is a trip that wouldnt be made if caught before shipping. I have ordered my last new gun from any company. Will buy new if dealer has in stock and I can go over it first like I can a used gun. Have passed on many over the years and bought many. Bottomline be it gun, car, truck or whatever people expect new stuff to be right and work. When fit and finish on my old Glock is better than some new revolvers it is a sad day. Someone in quality control needs to be replaced.
