I really like to see the frame window completely filled by the cylinder as well. have you tried the 405 beartooth bullets in it? Not in this revolver. I tested them years ago in a Super Redhawk and their performance was abysmal. They wouldn't penetrate nor flay straight. I tested some 355s at the suggestion of another member here and they worked really well.

was that the penetration test in Big Bore Revolvers? my guess would be that the 1-20 twist that ruger uses is a little on the slow side for the 405s.

I don't know that it would have made a difference if the twist had been faster. It's a really long bullet that easts case capacity in big mouthfuls. I think it really is too much of a good thing. If you want a 400 grain bullet, I think you'll be better served by a .475. I recently tested Buffalo Bore's 340 grain +P+ loads and they performed admirably in a 1:20 twist barrel.

I've handled at least half a dozen guns that Jack built and they are all top shelf. I didn't hesitate to send a 50th anniversary .44 Blackhawk to him to become a 4 5/8" octagon barreled Bisley .500JRH with ivory and engraving. He doesn't shy away from anything and scratch built two one-off parts for my project. It's now at the engraver and should be done in a couple months.

Jack does great work. He's great to talk to, reasonably priced and his turnaround time is usually pretty quick. Here are a few examples of work he has done for me. 480 New Vaquero with S&W barrel and rear sight Stainless 5 shot 45 Bisley Same gun with fluted 45 ACP cylinder Old Model 44 Mag with banded barrel and extended reshaped grip frame 500 maximum, this one has gone on to a new home but is an excellent example of Jack's quality work

Craig, That scrimshaw work is really, really nice!! Tim Yes, I agree! I wish I still owned them. shortbarrel is very talented - I bought the gun from him many years ago and it is the reason I caught the custom gun bug...

Not to hi jack here but I mentioned shortbarrel a few weeks ago when someone ask about scrimshaw work. He came over & joined the forum, amazing talent! I've also shot that 500 of Kraigs & its one beautiful gun, stoke it with a cylinder full of Buffalo Bore factory loads & you've had a days worth of fun in 5 shots!

Professional operation - recently sent in a SBH for what I suspected was a timing issue. They fixed the timing issue plus one other item. Turn around was quick - much faster than expected (5 - 10 business day turn around). A real pleasure to deal with.
Fantastic firearms - the lot of them - I would be proud to own any and all.
