I took a few more pictures. First, a sorta stock OM 45 Colt. Sorta stock because it is actually an OM SBH 44 cylinder chambered in tite 45 by Alan Harton. Recessed head and standard cylinder diameter. Next is a five shot 45 Colt in a fullsized Bisley, also by Harton. Recessed head and oversized cylinder diameter. Next is a Harton five shot .475 Linebaugh in a fullsized Bisley, loaded with a .480 Ruger round. Recessed head and oversized cylinder diameter. Same shot as I posted earlier. Finally, a five shot .500 Linebaugh by John. Recessed head and oversized cylinder. Recognize the brass, Robb? (Thanks for that loan many years ago - hope I sent the promised replacement brass, let me know if I didn't!!) The Lipsey's picture appears to be thinner cylinder-wise than the Harton .475 gun, but that could easily be a difference in overall cylinder diameter, chosen by Ruger based on cylinder frame dimensional considerations, along with steel choice. Plus .480 is a very slightly less pressured round than the .475 - a few thousand psi. I'm still guessing .480 Ruger on this one. Can't wait for the announcement! Tim

Great pics! I can't wait for the announcement either. Talked to a Lipsey's dealer today and he's ready to make the call as soon as they're released.

I am sure you sent it Tim. If not I had forgotten all about it so it doesn't matter. I think over the years I have become one of the USPS best flat rate box customers!

I'm excited! My guess is that it could be a 480 but if it is, why the recessed cylinder...so maybe a .475L or even possibly a .500! I agree that it would be awesome if Ruger picked up the .500 JRH....the more I look the more I think it's a .500 which would be fantastic but either way I'm pumped. While people are throwing out ideas, how's about a six shot non fluted GP100 in .41 mag?! I'm sure with some trimming a Blackhawk .41 cylinder could fit into a GP100...just sayin'

After looking at Tim's pictures, I decided to measure the diameter of my stock Super Blackhawk cylinder and my JRH mid frame 480 Ruger cylinder. The stock large frame cylinder measured 1.725" while my custom 480 cylinder measured only slightly larger at 1.730" If you take a look at the picture of my 480, it appears that my cylinder has more "meat" around the outside than the picture of the Lipsey's gun.

I think the reason for the recessed case head cylinder is to help support the loading gate under recoil. That's actually another clue!
It's good that they're thinking ahead about possible issues like that. I hope they also put their best polishers/finishers on these to prevent some of the awful finish issues a few of the Single-Sevens had.

I wondered why Six Shot sold his gun. Ha Ha Yes, this new Ruger may drop the price/worth of custom made .480s from now on! OH MY!

Have a couple of 500 JRH BFRS so hoping for a Bisley 480 Ruger.
Think a factory 480 Ruger Single action is past due.
Magnum Research built the 475 Linebaugh, which you can shoot 480 Ruger in. But, to the best of my knowledge there has never been a factory 480 Ruger SA.
