I would not be surprised to see a Brian Pearce write up on the #5 after he purchases it.... I don't know a single writer in the business with pockets that deep!

Hard to tell what a person may or may not be able to buy unless they let you know. Maybe I'll try to buy it,.

The one(s) I would love to have are the pair of 57s. I saw them this last two years when I was in Boise and made a total of three trips to Cabelas to see them...
Had a chance to buy Bill Jordan's 57 when the estate of Rex Applegate was sold off...I never did bid and Leroy Thompson ended up with it...been kicking myself ever since...

Ok I'm going to be the odd man out and say that some of the double rifles will bring more money that the #5. There will be a whole different type of money going after the doubles than the #5. Just my thoughts and I may be way off. It's amazing the collection of high end doubles Elmer owned.
My problem is If I could afford them I would buy them all!!! Wish I was crazy wealthy.

I agree with you there - some of those doubles will bring a lot more than the #5, I think. Definitely a whole different crowd.

I'm not so sure. The double rifles will bring big bucks, for sure, but their value is easier to predict. Rare(famous?) doubles sell fairly regularly at somewhat steady prices. I think Keith owning them will add Very little to their sale value. There's only one #5, but it's real value is tied to the man, not the gun. It'll be interesting for sure. So, it'll come down to the value of a gun versus the value of heritage/previous owner.
Pretty confident I won't be taking any of these home!

I bet that plain beater looking m29 goes for close to what that #5 goes for.

There are going to be very deep pockets in this auction and I believe bragging rights will mean something.

I agree, double rifles are high dollar guns anyway and easier to predict. The #5 will probably surprise us all because it is a one of a kind sixgun that is forever linked to Elmer Keith.

I think you may be surprised. The #5's value is only its link to Elmer. If it was a factory engraved Colt with the ivory, a very high dollar gun. But a "customized" Colt by smiths no one knows of today? And Elmer's fan base is shrinking every day. I agree, the every day carry 29 may be close to as valuable. After all, Elmer retired the #5 for his big Smiths. But personally, I would mortgage the house if I thought I had a real chance at the #5.

Wow! What a collection! I know little about any of these aside from the revolvers and Mr.Kieth but I have a question. Why are these going on the auction block? I can't believe the family wouldn't want to keep these "in the family" because of all the history that surrounds them. I agree this would be a perfect time to have some very deep pockets. Maybe I'll hit the lotto before they go up for auction. Man oh man how sweet would it be to have something of old Elmer's!

I am a Elmer fan but far from an expert. Not sure about other family but Ted is his only surviving son and I know nothing of his family. Also I would hazard a guess that most of Elmers "close and personals" have also passed. There is a chance that trying to piece the collection out could cause a rift in what family is left? I have seen families torn apart by "good intentions" from items far less valuable than this. Or it could sadly be a case of lack of people to pass them on too?
