Too bad you couldn't hunt with a proper pretty rifle. Looks like a grand time...

I forgot about this thread... I'm a died-in-the-wool traditional lube/size guy. But I have a problem child Blackhawk .41 Magnum that after fire-lapping it within an inch of it's life, STILL leads. So I held my nose and with my free hand I powder coated some bullets for this revolver. The leading wasn't completely eliminated but was significantly reduced. But best of all 100 yd. accuracy was pretty good. Fired from a seated back rested position- View AttachmentYou know they make some less obvious PC colors you can use. Like you I hated the red or goofy colored bullets and got some silver and some clear PC to use. The finished bullets looked like regular old lead bullets but my issue was that I would cast a batch of bullets and set the coffee can on the shelf and PC coat them later. Then after a bit I would have several coffee cans of the same bullet sitting there, some bare from the mold, some PC coated but not sized, and some ready to shoot but they all looked the same! x101Airborn on here hooked me up with some of his PC that he offers all the members, comes out a very pleasant granite gray color and works great and I know my bullet has been coated and the sizing shows just a bit on the sides. Love it, have lubed a bullet in a few years now...

I had heard he was in hospice, most unfortunate. I have enjoyed his writings for years although I never met him, I think I would have liked too.

I don’t own a 97 but I know a lot of guys have found they just crimp there Kieth style bullets over the front shoulder instead of in the crimp groove.
My understanding is that they will handle the Ruger only loads with ease however if bullets need deep seating then you need to back off your charges and work up to your desired velo in the Ruger only power level. The 270-SAS is an excellent bullet in that gun but again needs to be deep seated.
Assuming you still want to shoot the little booger at that power level where the recoil will get quite rude due to the small size and lightweight nature of the gun. This is often the limiting factor for many guys.
Marvelous guns

I said this about Mr. Ross when is Bisleys first came out, you can ask whatever you like, the market will decide if its worth it. I don't think he has the pedigree to get what he's asking for most of his work. But I have seen a few of his gun in guys collections so he came to some acceptable deals with a few guys who bought his work.
My big thing is we just don't have any younger gunsmiths coming up to replace Bowen and the other greats, we need to encourage anyone who is willing to put the work in and learn the profession to continue. I hope Mr. Ross is successful at getting to the skill and reputation of Bowen and the other great and is buried in work.

Brian Pearce has published several articles with the 270-SAA bullet, basically a twin with 10.0gr of unique as the limit in mid framed Rugers and S&W guns. He doesn’t list unique in the Ruger only level loads, HS6, Power Pistol, H4227, 2400, Longshot quickly come to mind as better powder choices for high end of the moderate level load befor going into the real Ruger/FA level loads…

But also remember just because someone flips it and asks for whatever price they think they can get for doesn't mean they were right. An awful lot of guns languish on the shelf until some offer them close enough to what they have in it to stomach the loss...

By the price I would guess probably 25yrs or so I’m betting 20 years older than that, I started loading in the mid 80s and the primers boxes had evolved to a different design then. I remember in high school loading for a buddies 22/250 and they had some “old” primers we were using up that came in those boxes. If kept dry I bet they work just fine. I was given a foot locker of old reloading components a few years back that was slightly dated (like a box of Nosler Partitions that are from the first 1-2 years of production old!) and the primer worked fine for casual loads. Didn’t really run that ammo over the chrono to see if it was any better or worse than new stuff. But it went bang and grouped fine.

Is supposed to be visible again tonight so might get a repeat.
We went out here in Colorado last night but didn’t get the show right then. I know people all around the area before and after got it so we just timed it poorly.

I think the forcing cones destroyed long before more barrels get worn out. Typically light for caliber, ball powders are harder on forcing cones than heavy for caliber bullets are, and if one is running their loads to redline level or not. My guess is those details are more pressing than jacked vs cast.
of course we could add to the conversation and add cast and lubed or cast and powder coated bullets these days...
