Just snagged a Bowen Rough Country. Mounted it all up and got her dialed in. Came to zero like a rifle. One shot, and it tracked and adjusted perfectly. In 4 rounds I was cutting the sticker edge at 25.
Load really seems "Spicy". I am shooting Matt's 270K which I think drops more like 280 grains. 10.5 Unique. This a touch over max? Ruger Bisley.
Was more accurate than HS-6/12.5 and I have lots of Unique.

IMHO, IN A RUGER "SPICY" BUT OK, IN A SMITH POSSIBLY TOP END/LITTLE OVER TOP END AND I WOULD NOT USE IT ON A REFULAR BASIS.

In my Ruger Blackhawks, I max out at 10.5 grn Unique under a 250 grn.
Unique generally produces great accuracy. But, pressure spikes quickly as you approach maximum loads.
Like Rey, I'd relegate those to an occasional session...

I agree with both 45man and Encore,….Unique is great for lower end loads, when I get into mid level or “spicy” HS6 is my go to for 45’s and bigger.

Brian Pearce has published several articles with the 270-SAA bullet, basically a twin with 10.0gr of unique as the limit in mid framed Rugers and S&W guns. He doesn’t list unique in the Ruger only level loads, HS6, Power Pistol, H4227, 2400, Longshot quickly come to mind as better powder choices for high end of the moderate level load befor going into the real Ruger/FA level loads…

Spicey for sure, I would drop that unique load down to 9 gr, pressures are unpredictable at 10 and over with unique

If you can get your hands on some Power Pistol, try 9.0 grains with that 280 gr. bullet. My particular Ruger is happy with that combination.

Bumping up to 13.0 HS-6 under that Matt's bullet was simply awesome. Got some excellent groups. It's probably the HorsePower I am looking for. Set the sights and loaded up a bunch last night. Have several pounds of Unique, but HS-6 has been very easy to find locally.
Not sure if it made a difference, but I went with Magnum primers. Works excellent.
Now I need to order another 500 of Matt's bullets. Burned up the first 500 in two months enjoying new pistols!!

Sounds perfectly sensible with that powder...

I have found HS-6 to be much more consistent with standard primers.

I would look at Longshot data with that bullet.

I'm not familiar with the bullets you're using, but I've been using RCBS 45-270saa over 9.5grs of unique in my Mountain Gun, Uberti Cattleman, and Marlin Cowboy. It's a great shooting load, not sticky at all, and it shoots tight groups. It'll do what needs done, if I need more I have a Super Blackhawk and a model 29.
