I know Lee has some load data for 525 grains, but I think they're max loads. Maybe he'll chime in. I have a box of 525gr Cast Performance that are waiting to be loaded. They make excellent paperweights in the interim, though.

Ok, since that worked so well regarding Lil'Gun .... how about 500-525gr plane base boolits?? I wouldnt bother with a gas check in a handgun in these weights, you cant drive the bullet fast enough to require it if the bullets are sized right for the gun.

19.7 grains of AL 8, Rem 2 1/2, Starline brass and a 450 Keith. Accurate, powder fills the case, velocity is about a thousand depending on the gun/chambers. Or BlackHorn 209, fill the case, compress with bullet and light with CCI 350. Fun load with lots of smoke, does about 800 fps.

What is "AL 8"? Black powder in the 500L, that'd be fun

Snyd,
The only data I have been able to find for 520-525 cast bullets was some stuff Lee steered me towards from Accurate. They show 18.2-20.2 of #9 for 980-1089fps and 21.6-24.0 of 5744 for 908-1009fps. It's available on their website.

I think I may have to get a custom mould made from Mountain Molds. 500-525 plane base.

Contrary to popular believe the 525 WFN is an outstanding slug in the Linebaugh. Over 26.0 grains of H110 (which is max so work up slowly) it churns 1,080 fps from a 5.5" tube. Accuracy in both of my 500 Linebaughs has been stellar. Benchrested they'll do 1.0 - 1.5" @ 25 yards and 2 - 3" inches at 50. Some will naysay the combination but first-hand experience with your gun is what counts. I recommend giving them a try. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I will add that I have hunted with 500 grain loads and taken a number of animals with them and they are stellar to say the least. They hit VERY hard. In my estimation, a 525 at 1,100 fps or thereabouts is all you will ever need to handle any chore.

I took this buffalo with the 525 loaded to near 1100 FPS out of my 6" 500 Linebaugh. The bullet exited and blood flowed from the entrance and exit wound. Very impressive to say the least

What do you "525ers" think about a custom mould mirroring the 525 CP gas check but with a plane base?

That would be a great bullet as long as it held the same nose shape and me-plat

Snyd if you order such a mold--let's make it two, I want one. Been getting materials here and there to maybe give casting another go next winter. Have more room since the move and these winter months would make a great opportunity to cast.

I've played around a bit with mountainmolds.com online mould builder. I'm thinking 525gr cast with WW, .513, .400 nose, 75% meplat puts it about where Veral put his LBT WFN's. .90 less than boolit diameter. If I remember right total length with plane base would be a skosh shorter (more case capacity) than the CP 525er. I think I have the CP dimensions somewhere. If someone wants to measure one and post the specs that'd be great. Total lenght, nose length and meplat diameter. I'm open to suggestions and input here. I want to get it right the first time. It'd look like this.
