Not seen anyone but FA chamber for it. I'd hate to be tied to FA for brass supply in perpetuity, especially since it's performance can be duplicated by the 500 jrh.

You could buy a 50AE FA and get FA to make you a 500WE cylinder. The 500JRH is a fine alternative for a Ruger custom. Jack Huntington will make you a 500JRH cylinder for your 50AE or 500WE FA. Dave Clements offer a a chambering he calls a 1.4 inch 500 S&W that is virtually the same thing as the 500JRH with the larger 500 S&W rim..

"Looks" is about the only reason I can find to recommend the .500 WE over any of the rimmed offerings of the same bore.. A proper rim will give at least as good -- if not better -- headspace control, when compared to the belted version.. either a belted or rimmed .50 is much better than the rimless .50 AE, which can act as a very efficient inertia bullet puller with above-average loads...

I absolutely love my 500 WE FA. It is a fun gun to shoot and I've really learned a lot about handloading for the biggest bores with it.
I bought a bunch of cases from FA when I ordered the gun, along with dies, and I usually will order a box or two of cases with every order I place with them, so I should be set on brass...

I like the 500WE, I have 2 of them in 83s along with a 500JRH also in a 83. the slightly shorter OAL of the 500WE fits the short cylinder of the FAs better then the JRH.
As for a Ruger custom or Magnum Research for that matter I prefer the 500JHR#2, this is simply a 500SW cut down to 1.4".(the 500JRH was made to fit the 83s and uses a smaller rim then the 500SW).
Both are great rounds, I would think as long as FAs is selling them brass will be avb for the 500WE.

That rim on the JRH is a tiny little thing isn't it. IMHO the WE belt is nothing more than the same tiny rim moved up the side of the case a bit..

There's only .010 difference between the .500 Smith and .500 JRH rim.

I'd am definitely not a fan of belts and especially do not like them on a revolver round

I'd think that the functional difference in a belt and rim on a straight wall case is moot.. Personally I dont care for belts on a bottleneck case. The concept of headspacing in two places is to complicated for my itty bitty head. I literally love my WE AND my JRH... Looks like I may NEED a 500 JRH #2 ;D

If FA ceases to offer brass good luck finding a parent case to make them

I'm thinking I've got enough WE brass for the remainder of my life. However, I am hedging my bets with AE AND JRH cylinders for my 50 bore FAs..

That rim on the JRH is a tiny little thing isn't it. IMHO the WE belt is nothing more than the same tiny rim moved up the side of the case a bit.. Bingo! As for the 500JRH rim being only .010" smaller than the 500S&W. .010" to big is still to big to fit without turning them down, Ive done this in a lathe not because brass wasn't avb. rather I had 500S&W brass with split necks. turning down the rim added to the case-forming work required. If MRI keeps selling there 500JRH (I think they will), making brass from 500S&W will never be req. Also I think the MRI guns are chambered in 500JRH#2 so they can use 500S&W brass simlpy by trimming the case to 1.4" without turning the rims down. The 500WE had been around for a few years now if brass drys up, there will be a demand and in freedom arms best interests to keep brass avb someone will pick up the work,my bet would be starline. Im not worried.

Why bingo? I don't follow. The only reason the rim was made small was the limited space offered in the FA 83 cylinder. If you have a revolver custom built in the .500 JRH, you can have the rim either way, and if you buy a BFR in .500 JRH it will take either rim. The fact of the matter is that there is a boat-load of brass available to cut down if need be, brass that has been in production for nearly ten years. I doubt the supply will ever dry up. A proprietary belted case on the other hand.......
