JRH brass has rifle primer pockets. It's just .500 S&W brass that has been cut shorter and stamped differently by Starline.

Is the jdh die specific or can you use another 500 cal die set.

My wife wants you guys to stop talking about the 500 JRH, or any 50 caliber revolvers for that matter.

Is the jdh die specific or can you use another 500 cal die set. I use RCBS dies, labeled for 500 S&W/500 special. Use a Redding 500 S&W crimp die to crimp. This die was about 1/4 inch to long so had my smith cut it down on the lathe.

How close would a set of 50ae dies be.

Can't use 50AE. I'm using Hornady dies with no modifications. They work fine.
Just wish my wrist would get all the way healed so I could throw some serious lead downrange!!!!

The JRH has a tiny rim. Don't think the full 500 S&W rim would work in a FA like the JRH does. The short 500 S&W is called a 1.4 500 S&W

And how is your recovery progressing, subsonic? Not as quickly as I had hoped. I could probably do what I want to now, but I don't want to risk re-injuring it this close to deer season. It mostly feels normal, but still reminds me I did something to it now and again if I move it certain ways. If it doesn't get completely better soon, I guess I will be headed to the Dr. that I am avoiding.

Thanks for the update, Dennis. I know you are probably tired of hearing it, but don't rush it. Keep us posted.

FWIW I loaned WE dies to Hammerdown77 to load for his JRH while he waited for his 500 S&W short dies to arrive. He talked about the WE size dies making for a smaller diameter body evidenced by the snake swallowing a rat look of the case when he seated a bullet. I understood him to say that most of this phenomonon went away with the 1.4 S&W size die.
