Oh my. I just realized I haven't bought a gun in over a year. This never happened before.
(I tried, a little lol)
I also realized I still haven't shot the last one I bought last July. That's never happened before either.
Though I own a couple heirlooms I've never fired, I've never bought one and didn't use it right away.
I did just remember that while I didn't buy one, I was given one. Haven't shot that either.
Which also reminded me, I still haven't fixed a rifle that belonged to that same person, broke while hunting last November. Maybe I'm dealing with some sort of depression?
Which reminded me of a gun I took apart about 15 years ago to work on and still haven't, it's still apart. Now that's depressing.

Saturday- the kids and a few friends are coming over to finally replace the section of fence that got taken down when we replaced the septic system. Pizza and beverages to follow. Naturally my back is buggered...

Oldest son and his wife are here for a week to celebrate the old mans birthday so yesterday he and I headed to a little lake up on a mountain in the coat range and caught or limit of trout. Anywhere from 10"-14" and pretty as a shiny penny. Went ack today with the grandson, wife and D-I-L and caught 4 more so we have enough for a fish dinner tomorrow night. Amazing how a guy can stand in one place for an hour at a time just watching a little red and white bobber when there is no phone, etc.

A string of multi-day rains seems to have stopped. Just toured our river bottom 'hood on my ATV. Looks like 3 homes getting wet, hopefully not making it in. A section of road has a bit of water over one side, lane. The Grand River goes far inland and has lots of tribs and wetlands. Not sure if we've peaked yet. I'll keep making rounds thru the day to see if help needed. I've helped with rescues of people and boats and household and garage goods in the past. A large household size propane spouting gas and floating away a vivid memory from years ago. The neighbor boys chased it in a boat, roped it and towed it back and tied it to a tree. Was nicely done. A few years later were volunteer firemen for our twp.. Both firemen/EMT now with young families.

A couple friends, my son and daughter-in-law were over yesterday and we got the new section of fence built. When they came in to redo the septic they took out 26 feet of fence, more than they strictly needed to but it all needed to be replaced anyway; it was old and rickety. It's not picture-perfect but it's rock solid and includes an 8-foot gate. It's all assembled with heavy-duty decking screws. Despite my back being buggered I worked right alongside, with the son and DIL making sure I didn't do stupid stuff that would have hurt my back worse. After my back is better I'll take the sawzall and even out the tops of the boards. The dogs are delighted; they haven't been able to go in the backyard for over two months. Afterwards we ordered in pizza, had a nice visit and my buddy Jake ordered a set of grips. We're planting the yard in clover, not grass. Feels nice underfoot, low maintenance, requires little or no watering and you can mow it just like grass. as a bonus it out-competes a lot of our local weeds and keeps them from becoming a problem, Worked nicely for us before they had to tear up the entire back yard.

I sure like the clover instead of grass idea. Have quite a bit in front yard as is, but to just seed ? Neat idea.

Clover always tried to take over our yards anyway. Having it planted in clover is genius.

Two new hats picked up yesterday... and 3 more refurbished with new ribbons, etc. One is nutria fur felt with design components and colorway taken from John Wayne's hat in Big Jake and Stetson 1930s - 1940s vintage hats No. 1 and The Fray... notice the ribbon is frayed at the trailing ends. Open crown, this one was 6-1/2" tall with a 3-1/2" brim. I looked like Hoss in Bonanza before we creased it. Second is a dark moss 100X pure beaver fur felt... a hat I've wanted for about 4 years and finally got it made. Nothing flashy, just a solid, useful color in a sturdy hat that can go from church to the country with ease. Started out 6" tall x 3" brim. I also had an old Indiana Jones/Raiders of the lost Ark type hat that I had changed into a dressier style with maroon colored "boxcar" ribbon treatment with "sharks gills" on both sides. It never fit right, so I had Mike reblock it to fit me, then he also added a new sweatband. Then two other hats with only new ribbons added. I left an old parabuntal straw with Mike that I had picked up off ebay 4 years ago. It was rolled up in a bamboo tube and brought home by a serviceman who had been in the Phillipines. 1950s Champ fedora with new crown ribbon: 1960s Charles Knox "stingy" brim fedora with new navy ribbon: Phillpine Parabuntal being steamed and stretched on a size 60cm block. Yep, it'll fit me!
