While I dont know if Jack Belk is still welding Ruger frames, I know Harton does a fantastic job and I bet Stroh could do the same....
Thanks for jogging my memory bigbores.

What a neat idea Lee....I rate that gun right there with EK's #5 as to being iconic. I like many of you got my appetite for handgun hunting with big bores from that article. I still have it, and have read it so many times I can nearly recite it from memory. I could never afford the Bisley customs that Ross started, but bought a 44 Bisley and had it shortened to 5.5" before ever firing a shot. It was my way of making a gun to at least have that "look". Bought a Milt Sparks 200 AW holster to carry it in too. (Still have both the gun and the holster)

I just keep gravitating to it! Seyfried has no equals in my eyes.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty excited about this project. I still want to find a less than perfect Hauppauge Seville for the conversion. If time drags on though and I get impatient I may pull one of my blued 44s out of the safe. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

So one day after asking the forum for help, I've secured a base gun for this project. Many thanks to vonfatman. Be on the lookout for a "Buffalo gun" thread. I'll photograph each step of the conversion. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Now the question Lee is will you try and hunt Buffalo with too? And I bet money that a phone call to John Linebaugh and he will tell you anything you want to know about the build if he can remember...

I don't have Ross' ability or raw nerve. So nope, I won't be hunting Cape Buffalo. And I may call John real quick to get more background. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

This rather timely as I re-read that article a few days ago myself. Good luck with the project Lee and I am looking forward to the build article.

That's an awesome project idea Lee! Can't wait for another one of your "page turner" build threads, they are always inspiring. This one will be a doozy! PS- nice donor gun, she'll do right nice! I aspire to do a clone of Linebaugh's 475 Bisley with the 4 5/8" bbl, brass grip frame and walnut stocks. I now have the donor gun and talked to John on Monday about the project Now I've just got to find a friggin brass Bisley grip frame and the project is a "go". But that's like chasin the darned white rabbit down the hole!

While I dont know if Jack Belk is still welding Ruger frames, I know Harton does a fantastic job and I bet Stroh could do the same.... Thanks for jogging my memory bigbores. Jack left the gun business about 5 years ago. Had some kind of a witness to a law suit against Remington and working on steam engines. Back in the 80's I had a .375 H&H with him for a new stock for over 2 years. Never did get this stocked by him. Finally went over and picked up the rifle and had it finished by Dan Dowling.

I'm probably violating some copyright, but what the hell. I figured some of you have never read Ross' original buffalo hunt article. Enjoy (and Whit....notice how the caseheads are showing ) -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I plan on talking with John Linebaugh and Ross Seyfried as this clone project progresses. That said, anyone have an idea as to the make of the front sight? It's likely an altered factory post or after-market piece. We can duplicate it from scratch but if I can identify the make I'll go that route. The barrel band is from a Ruger No. 1. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

The sight is off of either a Ruger #1 or M77 -- I don't recall which rifle provided the sight.

Thanks Whit. I'll look into both of those and verify which it is. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"
