As I get make ready the boat for our first shrimp and bear trip into Prince William Sound, I starting thinking about all the trips I have done in the several short years I have lived here and must admit, I do not miss Texas a bit. Granted the short trips around Christmas time back to the Hill Country is awfully nice--but love giving my folks a hard time when we talk about the summer heat. Anyway, it got me looking back through some my pictures from a few hunts and trips, some successful, some not, some my turn, some a family member. The big moose my father-in-law shot. He tried to talk me into pulling the trigger, but he was the one that called it in--although it held up about a mile and a half from camp, when we set out for it, I already considered it his moose. The small moose was my first with a bow, as was the caribou. The bears came from a DIY in Yakutat a couple springs back. Mine was just shy of 8' and my buddies wore a booner skull and squared almost 9'6". First photo I clicked out the window flying back across the Cook Inlet from an early moose hunt this past year--not our moose, just a cool photo. Rest are just a handful of random fishing/shrimping/crabbing pictures.

Very cool pics. I'd love to move there, if only for a couple of years, but my wife vetoed it. I vetoed Florida and we ended up in Colorado. I feel just fine about it until I see post like this..

Yep, Alaska is a great place! Lived in Sitka twice in the '60's and made lots of trips up there from Seattle on tugboats towing barges all the way to the Arctic, Nome, Bethel etc and all of SE. Lots to love about it. Thanks for posting all the neat pics!!

Great pics from The Great Land Will! I know what you mean. I moved here to Fairbanks from Western MT in 1991. Alaska is unique, thats for sure. I too have had many great adventures in the Great Land that have involved moose, sheep, bear, caribou, wolves, halibut, salmon and the country and experiences that go along with them. Then there's the Aurora, Dog Mushing, Denali, rivers, mountains, jet boats, trappers, blueberries, mosquitos, bush planes and Ol' Crusty Sourdoughs. I love Alaska as well and it's been good to me. Now about the winters.... to experience a "true" Alaskan winter you gotta come to Fairbanks! Here's last Jan on my front porch, no shooting that day!

Man--we'll see a few days in the minus twenties and maybe one or two that hit minus 30, but nonemofmthat silliness of the deep freeze temperatures you Fairbanks folk are accomstomed to. My lovely bride and I keep saying we want to head to Chena one winter to enjoy the hotsprings and northern lights. We obviously get them as well, but nothing like y'all see.
