Ive gotten to the point where I have several 50s in the 6 1/2" to 8" barrel length so I'm thinking about scoping my 7 1/2" 500WE/50AE freedom arms 555.
Never really liked the idea of an Aluminum base but the T-SOB seems to really work on the hardest of kickers. Does the aluminum mount change the point of aim in severe temp changes?
I don't know anything about Freedoms LOVELL mount other then I really like the look, anyone have one of these, what is it made of? Any thoughts on it?
Next is the Leupold Scope Mount Base, Ive had this mount on a 454 years ago, it seems to be a good way to go but is the least aesthetically pleasing to me.
Last would be the scope, Ive only had one hand-gun scope on a revolver it was a 2 power Leupold what would you guys recommend for the 500WE?

I have the FA mount on my 83 .454, love the looks of it and it has proven plenty durable. Now to find a SILVER Leupold 4x!

I own and like the Lovell and the T'SOB. My favorite is the T'SOB simply for the added flexibility in mounting positions. So far as scopes for off hand and limited support shooting give me a 2X Leupold or a 2X Burris.

I use Warne or TSOB bases and Weaver pistol scopes, usually 2X. They may not be considered on par with Leupold or other high-end brands, but I've never had one go bad (and I've pushed them hard on guns like my 500 X-Frame, 416 JDJ, 450 Marlin BFR, etc). -Lee www.singleactions.com

I have used all three of the mounts and have come to prefer the Lovell just for "cleanliness" and aesthetic reasons. I have the Leupold for the FA and it is a great mount but it just seems more busy thean the Lovell. Stan is right about the flexability of the T'SOB and I've had one but now I stick to Leupold 2x or 4X in the Lovell.

I have several Freedom Arms including a 475 and 500 with the TSOB base and 3-4 Weigand scope rings and have been very happy with the combination. Very secure, holds zero and have noticed no change with temperature. I also agree the TSOB gives you some flexability with scope position. As for scopes I have used 4x Leupolds for all including the 500 with complete satisfaction. For hunting, target shooting and general plinking the 4x for me is a good compromise of magnification, field of view and "shake"

... Now to find a SILVER Leupold 4x! .... There are lots of good choices in paints and coatings for the DIYer. I have painted a couple myself and they have held up extremely well.

Why not just buy the Freedom Arms red dot sight base for $48 and install a red dot sight? They certaintly look cleaner than any scope, small, light, and very durable and for any animal under 100 yards away a perfect choice.

I have used the Lovell on my 500W.E since new, never had any trouble or needed any adjustments once set up. Pretty regular use (500-600 rounds a year) both range and field.

All I can coment on is my experience with my 83 in 454. I had a TSOB mount and I do recomend that. What I DON'T recomend is a variable power scope with a gun that has a recoil profile of these guns. I had three variable power scopes on it and locked up the adjuster ring on all three. Finally gave up and went with a fixed power Leupold and had no more problems. Bill
