Thank you Lee. Your diligence is appreciated. Amen. Thanks, Lee, for all you do. Back to the regularly scheduled discussion: I have a Linebaugh built .500L and a Bowen built .50 GI. Both fun to shoot. The .500L can be downloaded to be acceptable to my kids and loaded full-tilt to make me smile. Don't have a .475 - only two octagon .475 barrels and a Ruger Maximum revolver. It remains to be seen whether I'll be able to afford to have something built out of them someday. Life keeps getting in the way of guns, but that's OK. Have to try and keep things in the right perspective. Tim

dmize -- I love all of the calibers in question, but if you are contemplating a BFR in .475 or .500 JRH, you can't go wrong with either. That said, my .500 JRH BFR is one of the most accurate handguns I have ever had the pleasure of shooting. It's a true tack driver.

Those barrel bands make the "Classic" 475/500 custom in my book.. Doesn't make them my favorite though.. My personal favorite is octagon..

It is remarkable to me the vast aesthetic difference between a revolver with an octagon barrel and one with a round barrel w/band. Both gorgeous, both distinct and tasteful. In my mind, even more than custom stocks.
IIRC, one of you fellas had a CAD illustration on this forum some time back of a banded octagon barrel. I'd love to see one in actual execution. Probably a RPIB to execute though.
Axe, your "menagerie" never ceases to amaze me!

Lee, Hopefully the same warning went out to Bigbore for his change to my name ? BEFORE my comment?? My contention has simply been that I personally do not care for the look of Reeder's use of huge script and engraving on his guns. That coupled with my own personal observation of 4 different guns from Reeder that had unusually loose fitting parts and barrel/cylinder gaps. This seems to have "rubbed" some owners of these guns the wrong way and I understand their concerns. I've been toying with having a few more 5 shot conversions done, but never even considered Reeder because of what I've seen.

Let's meet at the range and shoot these things! I'll even bring some Reeder guns and feeler guages for show and tell! I've got some 500L and 500WE ammo I need some help sending down range too...

You're right Axe !! That would be fun. You've got some nice five and six shooters. Back on point. If I had to choose between a 475 and 500 to buy right now it would be one of the fine Magnum Research guns. The 500 JRH is a caliber I plan on owning soon. Not a fan of the 475 because of the higher operating pressures but in a BFR that is not a factor.

So many choices in 475s, 500s, and 510s out there. We are holding examples of quite a few here. You guys know I've got quite a few in my "Set." Most come to me off the used gun market. History says that when I have paid to have one built it is stainless or blue, 475 0r 510, 5-7.5 inch barrel, and that barrel will be octagon. Have what you want built by whomever you want.. Bowen, Linebaugh, Gallagher, Clements, Reeder... I like them ALL! My big bore Reeder set consists of a 7.5 inch 500L African Hunter, a 4 inch 500L Ultimate back-Up, and a 5.5 inch 475L Ultimate Bisley. You can like them or hate them. My money, my guns, these all have a home.

LOL, your kidding right? The words BLA BLA HUNTER on the barrel and the HUGE lettering does not qualify as "no silly engravings" to me. If you look at the Bowen or Clements or Huntington guns, to me this is what a single action is supposed to look like. Low key, not BILLBOARD ADVERTISING I agree totally and you can add the Lee Martin revolvers to that list as well as Horton, Clements, etc As far as I am concerned that "ginger bread" laser etching is horrible on the Reeder guns and no way do I find it tasteful

THANKS , aside from a dozen PM's I thought I was on a Reeder website !! Anyway, I'll get off my hi horse for now. Suffice it to say, I like the look of the classic Single Action revolver. Even the visual of the stretched BFR does not appeal to me but its a heck of a gun for the money, and it serves its purpose. I've owned John Linebaugh, Dave Clements and Hamilton Bowen guns. All of them were GOOD LOOKING SA guns!

"Anyway, I'll get off my hi horse for now."
Some of us would appreciate it.
One doesnt have to do business with anyone they dont care to do business with. I realize you are new around here with 36 posts, but we kinda tend to shun guys who do too much bashing. This is a Sixgun site afterall. Thanks for your efforts.

2 dogs, I dont know who you are but you have been poting here only a few months longer than me ! Just because I dont post on a daily basis (like some) does'nt make me "new here". I simply know what I like and dont like. Rubbing "Reeder guys" the wrong way is a fact of life here apparently. Comparing pics guns between the major smiths says it all
