n8dawg; I agree with Fermin, Give John a call, you won't be dissapointed. As for the matter of "taste" in revolvers and their embellishments. You can find a wide variety to suit and many places to get it . My personal tastes are somewhat subdued and I find a great deal of beauty in function, hence the latest project being a 5" 500L Bisley Vaquero, dovetail front sight and full ejector rod housing. The goal being rugged, powerful simplicity.
Thanks to all for the professionalism I've read on this board. It is easily discerned and much appreciated.

N8dawg16, if you just took a minute to give John Linebaugh a call you would most likely, like all the rest of us, find a guy who is more than happy to visit with you and answer your questions personally. Just keep in mind, while he is on the phone, he aint aworkin on big sixguns![/quote] Referencing the underlined part, that's why I plan to write to him at this stage . I've communicated with him in the past and he seemed more than willing to help, I just don't want to interfere with his gun work . I too truly appreciate all the professionalism shown on this board, it's one of the many reasons I come to his site. On a message board you can be as anonymous as you like and sadly the inner "handcuff hero" comes out in some people. I get to see enough of that on patrol. Sorry, back on topic anyone form their brass out of the 348 Winchester still?

Why would you want to do that? Brass for the 500 Linebaugh is already available and saves a bunch of case forming PLUS the cost of case forming dies.

I had glorious ideas of forming my own 500L brass too.. A look at the price of dies needed to perform the task quickly changed my mind.. I'd still like to have a case forming set but the wife and kids like lights and running water...

Hey all. John is currently building a 500 for me on my Ruger Bisley Vaquero. I have to make a decision as to barrel length. I want this to be packable, used mostly as a life insurance plan while hunting and camping/hiking. I could however forsee a buffalo hunt in the future. Any ideas on lenght. John says he really likes the 4 3/4". I'm thinking 5 1/2" at the most. Any thoughts. Would I see much of a difference in balistics/accuracy with a 5.5" vs a 4.75"?

Mine has a 5-inch barrel, and I think it's the perfect length (for me!).

I like the way drool beads up on it! If that doesn't kick someone sitting on the fence off then they are a lost cause! ;D Everone see the Linebaugh 500L vaquero for sale over on the Ruger Forum?

That sure is nice Boge. Seeing those pics though makes it tough for me to wait another 4-6 months to get mine!

I wish I had the scratch for Chuck's gun. The niceness of it, the history behind it, and the fact that it belonged to my brother Chuck make it a VERY special item. All things considered, it's a bargain. www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=131378

If I could only own one big bore revolver it would be this 500 A 440 @ 1,000 fps does all I'll ever need of a handgun. -Lee www.singleactions.com
