Alright. I'm seriously considering my first custom. I've lusted after Bowen's Nimrod conversions for a long time and my frustration with the accuracy of my Accu-Sport has got me thinking hard about having it made into a Nimrod.
So, the Accu-Sport Bisley I'm starting with has a bunch of aftermarket goodies on it already. Bowen target rear, Power Custom half-cock kit & free spin pawl, and Belt Mtn pin.
Should I:
A. Send it all in like it is. Will Hamilton be likely to use any of this stuff (especially the half-cock goodies) during the conversion? Would it be deducted from the price?
B. Strip off all the stuff and send the frame, grip-frame, barrel, and small parts not mentioned. Why even send the cylinder? It won't be used. Then I'll have "parts" to sell or use on other guns.
C. Try to sell this gun for more than a "stock" one and get another "stock" accu-sport to send off?
Also, what was the problem with some frames that kept them from being candidates for a 5 shot conversion? Was it something about the serial number or the thickness of the casting where it must be releived for the larger cylinder?

Just email Hamlton and ask him what he can use and what he can not use. The issue on the serial number is addressed on his website as well. He gives you a specific amount of frame material that MUST be present above the serial number to allow for the frame window to be opened for a 5 shot gun.

Or I guess I should add option D. Try to find a used Nimrod or similar and E. Put this gun back to stock before I send it off complete.

Thank you. I found it on the website. Looks like I'm right on the borderline. I don't care about the looks. Measures at .035" to the top of the last digit near the basepin.

As we know I am most often a gun buyer not a gun builder.. I have had a few built but my custom acquisition SOP is find one and buy it. That said... It really doesn't matter much what we think. As Robb recommended, call Bowen and get your information straight from the horses mouth..

I'll email. Was googling nimrods (weird combination of words to type) and saw that used Nimrods tend to run more than what it will cost to have the work done to my gun, plus the value I'm likely to get for my used Accu-Sport. And just like the reason I go to Burger King, with my own conversion I can have it "My Way".

Yeah, the prices of used top drawer full house customs like Nimrods kind of quiets the "poor value of customs" guys don't they. There is definitely a lot to be said for the "Build it My Way" school of thought when you are spending that much money too. As we run through the years and start loosing some of these guys it will be interesting to see what happens to their artwork.. If TLA is any sign the common man (us) will not be able to afford them. My personal weakness is that you can't build a quality custom that I don't like.. May not be able to buy all of them but I will have my share. Heck, I'll even have a few built along the way!..

The only thing I think when I see octagon is "wonder what size wrench fits that?" Unless it's on a smoke pole...

Not really looking for a .475 and it's not a bowen nimrod.

The octagon barrels are a bit "different." While the barrel banded custom always stands out in my eyes I like both! The 500 vs 475 custom is a point too. Like the barrel preference I'm a fan of both! ;D

5.5 seems to be the "classic" length for the barrel banded custom. There are shorter and longer banded barrel customs. Here is my 4 5/8 Clements Custom. A five shot 45 colt wearing ivory grips.
