I recently got back from the range and the trouble is every time I bring a Freedom Arms revolver it makes me wonder why I buy anything else. They lock up tight as a bank vault, the dimensions are always correct and uniform and the accuracy may be matched by a few revolvers but exceeded by none that I have found. I have some handguns for self defense and carry but most of what I do is plinking, informal target shooting and hunting. I have Smiths,Rugers,Dan Wessons, etc as well as some custom versions and certainly appreciate them but for the calibers that the Freedom Arms are available in little shoots as well. The 357 version is more accurate than any other maker in that caliber that I have and is faster than my 357 maximums. Same for the 44 and can still do anything my 445 will do.Etc,etc. They are no doubt expensive and I enjoy the variety of shooting other brands but for picking the best tool to do the best job I keep coming back to the FA's. Not trying to convince anyone else and am constantly amazed by the quality and beauty of the custom jobs but for me the FA's are a constant source of dissatisfaction in a number of other revolvers I own.

Yep, next to a freedom arms gun even the best custom fill a little clunky.

I was in good shape until I bought my first... Figured a 252 Silhouette couldn't hurt anything. Then the 353 deal popped up, and a buddy needed to sell his 475 because of his neck. Multiple 22s, 357s, 44s, 454s, 475s, 50s, 500s, and then the 97s started... There is no end in sight...

I have quite a few Ruger Single Actions and a couple of Freedom Arms. No comparison between the two designs....... Carl

I got an FA-97 and I understand just what you're talking about. I like the others but, that FA is something else!

My customs don't feel clunky compared to FAs. Then again, I may be overly partial to the builder. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Yep, next to a freedom arms gun even the best custom fill a little clunky. Not my customs, LOL! I don't know if clunky is the right word, how about not as tight, if I can hear any movement even if I can't see or fill anything in the cylinder when I try and turn the cylinder back and forth while holding the gun up close to my ear, its loose compared to my factory Freedom arms guns. (my custom 83 500JRH that Jack built makes this same slight noise but no movement can be felt). I love my Jack Huntington built 500Max and my John Linebaugh built 475L is every bit as nice but there cylinders don't fill welded like the FA's, I haven't seen builds from all the great smiths but out of the 10 full customs Ive owned not one locked up as tight as my factory 83s, I am told some of this is due to the heavy springs used in a freedom arms gun. I know this is being picky but there is a difference when compared side by side.

Nothing against Freedom Arms. They're exceptionally well built guns. That said, this "bank vault" thing is over-done in my opinion. I've seen plenty of customs (ours included and by no means am I trying to brag), that have very slight cylinder movement side to side....and by slight I'm talking well less than a half-thousandth. They tear ragged little holes just like Freedom Arms, stand-up to more rounds of heavy stuff than most can handle, and look good doing it. Again, nothing against FA. Just that the constant comparison to customs with Freedom always coming out on top because of fit gets old. And I know what Bowen said about custom Rugers and he's right. In many ways you can't get them as tight as an 83 or 97. My point though is that "bank vault tight" isn't a must have. Hell we're talking revolvers, not benchrest rifles. Just my two-cents. I hope no one is offended, but I haven't stirred a thread in a long time -Lee www.singleactions.com

Oh, it's so. But I'm certainly not suggesting it's a bad thing. They're a premiere casting company, hands down. If anything, that's a plus for FA. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Hell my last couple of customs were Gary reeder builds, they have more end shake than my other customs but they also shoot better than I can hold.
