The sheer size of a moose is impressive. I've never seen one in the wild but for whatever reason, I never think of them being that big. I've had the pleasure of spending some time in Maine and hearing the locals talk (and warn visitors) about road kills involving moose.
Great hunt and story. I appreciate you sharing it with us.

Whit buddy awesome job,now get my new toy off your signature you ain't cool anymore. ;D ;D dmize that bout made me buy a new computer, had to wipe the pepsi off the screen. I've read this post a few times and ethical is in the eye of the person at that spot and point in time.Everyones ethics are different, and so are skills and assets.Had I read this and not known whit I would still have given him the benefit of the doubt, because he is a fellow outdoorsman(usually a different breed) and fellow handgunner(another breed into itself). Knowing whit and seeing his skills first hand and hunting with him on several occasions I know his character and his ethics unquestionable. If whits ethics had been like some I've seen he would have taken a nice 350+ black bear this past season, but he holstered his cannon and never questioned the decision. Bad things happen to good folks all the time,in my opinion when bad things happen in the field it's because of ..........................well I'll keep that one to myself. Thank you for the kind words, cottonstalk. I look forward to this season's hunting! I removed the photo as per your wish........ ;D

Great story, great shot(s), great pic! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even with that little itty bitty revolver! I knew Moose were big... but that's 'looking in the upstairs windows tall'!

Nice job on the moose. I'm still trying to get one with the handgun. I hear ya on shooting until they're down. But, with moose they won't fall until thier dead or you hit the CNS. I've killed about a dozen or so and been in on about that many other kills over the last 20 years. Lung shoot a moose and it takes about 60-90 seconds for the lungs to fill. Then they stop running/trotting and try to breath. BP drops and they fall over. You east coast guys crack my up bringing out whole moose and hanging em up like I used to do deer in Montana.

They are weighed by the state, and that is what you are seeing in the photo, Snyd. I used the opportunity to take a photo.

Wow! I had no idea. Do they make you bring it out whole to do that? Guts and all? Or will they come haul it out for you?

I bet that could get tricky depending on where you get one. Here's how we do it. I have'nt gutted a bull in years. We skin em back, cut off the quarters, backstraps, neck and rib meat, roll em over, do the same and then slit the paunch and get the tenderloins, flank meat, liver, etc. Bag em up and throw em in the meat wagons. Here's a 69" incher we got that my buddy shot My first solo bull. Small one, 40 incher My second solo bull A forked horn meat bull a couple years ago. My 3rd solo, 1st handgun bull from last year is still walking That's what happens when you miss!
