Ax isn't kidding, I have some 440GRs that when they are loaded in my JRH are only .010" shorter than the 83s cylinder, I started trimming my brass back an extra .030" because of this, I'm planning on having a custom mold made up with a short nose for this gun.
Here's some other facts Ive found about these rounds. the 500JRH has less casecapacity even though its longer than the WE. Per Ken O'Neill's measurements the 500WE Case Capacity is 56.7grs the 500JRH Case Capacity is 53.2grs even though its .030" longer. weighing the cases tells the story the 500WE weighs 150.8grs the 500JRH weighs 179.3grs The brass must be thicker in the base of the JRH reducing Case cap a small amount.

If I'd shot these things enough to have a few miles on some brass I'd cut one each down the midde for show and tell.. Maybe next year..

Case capacity differences is meaningless as far as balisticaly speaking. I much prefer the stronger case

IMHO the strength difference in a 500JRH and 500WE case in a FA is moot...

Case capacity differences is meaningless as far as balisticaly speaking. I much prefer the stronger case I prefer you having a stronger case. As stated above both case strength and case capacity are moot, both have identical ballistics.

My preference is I'll take 120,00 tensile steel over 70,000 tensile brass anyday. The case itself is the "gasket".

Stan, Are there any apparent modifications to the "star" on your JRH cylinder?

Just picked it up at 930 last night. Not expecting any difference. The JRH rim looks to be the same diameter as the WE belt. I'll look and post pics if I see any difference.

Please don't turn this into another argument thread. There is no right or wrong. Pick your poison and spend your money. Write about what yours will and will not do. My personal choice is FAs in both along with 50AEs.

I have a 5 1/2" FA 83 in 500 JRH it was the "prototype" revolver in 500 JRH, the very first ever built in this caliber. I also have a 500 JRH in a 5" barreled BFR, that Grizzly ammo used to develope thier factory loads in 500 JRH
I like the 500 JRH on game

I was pleased that brass was so easy to get.. Some of the specialty stuff can be hard to find. Current plan is to use my 500 S&W and 500WE dies to get something loaded.
