I was walking around at the gun show yesterday and found a real nice Abilene that had no price on it. It was a 44mag and I asked the man what he wanted for it. He looked at me real serious like and said that that was a real rear gun and he would have to have $1200. After I got over the shock from the lack of knowledge on his part, I started laughing at him and I couldn't stop, so I just walked away. Well I walked two tables over and saw another Abilene, but in .357mag. It had a price tag of $399 on it. After the guy and I did our dickering and made a deal. I got it for $300. I promptly took it to the other guys table and told him about his rear gun. Here are of the new to me Abilene. I simply don't understand some people. Can you all figure out why he was mad at me?

I have a real hard time feeling sorry for the ignorant folk asking waaaaay too much for their wares at gun shows.

It was a rare rear gun? not a common front gun?:-) Nice 357!

Congratulations on your Abilene , I got the same gun about 2 months ago and I was very suprised at the accuracy and finish. Just watch out for the trigger return spring mine broke but I was able to get a couple replacements from Numerich arms I now have a spare and the gun is back in working order.

Nice find....definitely let us know how it shoots. As for the $1,200 gun, the only Abilene I'd drop money like that on would be Sig and Forrest's prototype from '72: -Lee www.singleactions.com

Congratulations on a nice buy. I have, on occasion when seeing a gun way overpriced, asked the fellow if he could explain to me just why the guns are so much more valuable on that side of the table than on this side? That usually jacks them up some, and it's always a priceless moment to see the look on their face! Frank

Well I hate to gloat, but since the opportunity so rarely presents itself I will. I got mine for the 25 dollar transfer fee, given to me by my awesome brother. It is a Riverhead gun, I think it was made in 78 or 79, before the Mossberg takeover:

I frequent gun shows but I have never touched an Abilene or even seen one other than pictures.
And Wickerbill finds not one but two at one show. I must be hanging out at the wrong shows.
Congrats. All nice guns.

Good on you, Wickerbill. Nice looking piece. I also enjoy yankin' the chain of folks with overpriced wares. Why are there so many idiots selling at gun shows? It's almost taken the joy out of going....
