I just sent a Vaquero to Dustin Linebaugh for a little bit of tweaking. When it returns home, it will be a 500 Linebaugh Sheriffs model with a four inch barrel and a Hunter Grip frame and custom walnut grips.
It is unlikely that this gun will ever see true full house, elephant tumbling loads, but it should make one heck of a woods packin, belly whomper!!

What's Dustin's turnaround time on a project like that?

Mine took about a year and a half, and from what I understand he did me a big favor!
Worth the wait, though, as long as you survive the wait! I was touch-and-go there for a while during the time he had mine, which was why he hurried it up for me. That's also why John made the cylinder, he wanted to have a hand in "Boge's gun".

Dustin quoted 6-8 months. While I am sure I will get more and more anxious as time goes on, I do have other guns to shoot and loading supplies and such to acquire.
Midway currently lists brass as out of stock. Anyone aware of any sources that may have it in stock?
Will also be looking for load data. Any pet loads would be welcome. I am not looking for barn burners. Something more along the lines of a 400 grain cast bullet at around 1000fps. Not sure that I want any more than that out of a small gun.

I bought my brass (500 of 'em) from Starline. If on back order, just order it now and it should arrive before your guns does.

Starline is currently showing 5/20/11 for the .500. In the past when I've ordered out of stock brass, it generally showed up a bit quicker. Anxiously awaiting the pictures this fall .... Tim

THE FIRST YEAR HE HAD ONE HE SHOT IT 600 ROUNDS TOTAL; THAT IS 12 ROUNDS PER WEEK. TRAIL BOSS POWDER LOADED TO THE BASE OF THE BULLET WITHOUT COMPRESSION MAKES A MOST PLEASANT SHOOTING LOAD.

When I was younger, I was all about the biggest bullet I could stuff over a full case of H110. I still like big slugs, but have settled on mid-level HS6 loads in rounds like the 475 & 500 Linebaugh, 450 Bonecrusher, etc. -Lee www.singleactions.com

When we were younger, both Jeff and I were "recoil junkies". Jeff used to have a saying which I loved:
"Shooting a gun that don't kick is like [fornicating with] a woman that don't move".
We're both older wiser now. The older wiser I get, the more I love the 22 Long Rifle and the 22 Magnum.
A 400-grain+ bullet moving at 900-1000 fps will kill anything that 99.9% of us will ever want to kill.

"Shooting a gun that don't kick is like [fornicating with] a woman that don't move". Now that's funny....hadn't heard that one before. More and more of my shooting is reduced loads. In fact, I use 7.0 of Green Dot in just about all of my revolvers: 158 grain, 357 Mag 228 grain, 375 Atomic 200 grain, 38-40 Win 220 grain, 401 Bobcat 230 grain, 41 Magnum 200 grain, 44-40 Win 250 grain, 44 Magnum 270 grain, 45 Colt It's nice because I have a second pistol measure that I never have to adjust. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Yea thats a new one to me too. Damn,I thought the recoil thing was just me. Im only 43 but the last 30 years I have either been holding onto a chainsaw, swinging a hammer of or beating the hell out of my hands wrists and elbows with impacts wrenches etc. Arthritis in elbow has dropped my recurve weight from 75lbs to 60 and just about cant shoot a longbow at all. Last Sunday i was shooting with my son and ran about 40 rounds thru my 480's and 50 rds of 44 mag....Monday it ached to hold a can of Coke

That's a lot better then I expected, I wonder how many FPS a given load will be lost with that short barrel in a big 500Linebaugh?

When I ordered mine, he was quoting two years. Maybe the Obama recession has thinned his backlog, wouldn't be unusual.
