When we were younger, both Jeff and I were "recoil junkies". Jeff used to have a saying which I loved: "Shooting a gun that don't kick is like [fornicating with] a woman that don't move". We're both older wiser now. The older wiser I get, the more I love the 22 Long Rifle and the 22 Magnum. A 400-grain+ bullet moving at 900-1000 fps will kill anything that 99.9% of us will ever want to kill. Now where was that thread about .41's and .357's having no purpose or some such malarky? Even full house .41's and .357's are welcome relief to full house .475's (or .480's or .454's for that matter). I can't imagine a maximum loaded .500L in a sheriff's model although it would probably work for setting controlled fires or triggering avalanches. It will be a nice piece with some moderate loads.

Well I find shooting a 500 L to be very comfy 45/8 or 51/2 in. ( waiting on my sheriff model as well) at 1000/1100fps with 445/455 gr bullets over HS6 or H110. Ps Castperformance has Hornady .500/linebaugh brass Mike said today 25,000 pcs. Hope this help

I'm sitting at around 15 months with guns at Dustin's. I keep telling him to take his time. Got a gun at John's too, but that one isn't in need of nearly as much tweaking.

I like the Hunter grip frame idea. The only thing I'm not liking on my NM FT 44spec and Sheriffs .44spec is the grip. Would like it longer. Where do you buy the grip frames ? How much ? Will they mate up to the smaller frame BH and Vaquero ? steve b

Midway currently has Hunter grip frames for around $110 if my memory is correct. They can be fit to the New Model Blackhawks and Vaqueros for sure. As far as the mid frame black hawks, and the New Vaqueros, I do not know.
The raw grip frame is pretty rough and oversize in many dimensions, so will require a fair amount of file and stone work. I have another project that I am working on that will include the installation of the hunter grip frame on a 5 1/2" Super Blackhawk. I started it last night by "decking" the grip panel faces in a milling machine. Will probably start the hand fitting to the frame this weekend. A co-worker is wanting to try his hand at custom grip making, so I have agreed to let him use my single actions as practice work.
While Richard has never made grips before, he is a very talented machinist and does a lot of hobby wood working that is truly outstanding. I have no doubts that once he works out some of the tricks of grip making, that his grips will be first rate.
