Just wondering if anybody had any preferences: my Savage has worn a 2X millett pistol scope up til now, but... one or the other will adorn it afore long.

I've played with both on other peoples rifles. I stick with my 2x Bushnell pistol scope.

leupold if for nothing else than their warranty.
all leupolds i've have worked on were back in hand in a couple of weeks.
burris was six-plus months and many phone calls. and i'm not the only one to have said this.

Pretty much equal good experiences with 1X and 2X leupold and Burris long eye relief scopes. We ran the Gil Hebard 1X & 2X Burris scopes set up for Bullseye mounted on the slides of our 45 ACP 1911 wadcutter guns all through the 80s and 90s.. Can't say enough about how tough they were. I'm sure the Leupold is a little lighter.

Terrible experiences with Burris customer service on four occasions. Only needed them the four times and got indifferent responses and no resolution to any problems.
Leupold on the other hand, seems more than willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the Burris optics either.
I will admit to owning a Burris Fast-Fire which is made in.....the Philippines. Hoo-kay.

Always considered Leupolds overpriced compared to most others. Seems it's a case of paying more for a popular name more than paying more for more quality. I do like my Burris scopes. 4 currently and there'll be two more coming later this winter. Also not upset with a Nikon that resides atop a Ruger here.

I used to shoot T/C a lot, tried a bunch of scopes. . Of the two, I only broke variable power Burris, never the fixed. . Never had any problems with Leupold or Nikon.

I am leaning toward the leupold. The price difference is about $50, so I don't see that as a final factor... I've been hoping someone would make a scout scope with a european post reticle, but it looks as though I need to get what I get and make do. Thanks for all the input, gang... greatly appreciate the advice and experience.

I don't know if they do it on all their scopes but a friend just got one in a Leupold, ordered from the factory with post reticle. . His name engraved on it also!

I like both but the Leupold mounts lower to the bore and that is GOOD!

I have always used Leupold scopes and have never found any reason to switch.

Another Leupold vote here. Like others have said...the best warranty anywhere.
I know for a very nominal fee they will change your reticle too.
I am never afraid to buy a used Leupold sight unseen. If there is anything wrong, they will fix it.
Burris customer service....not so great.

I have both. Like them both but I like the Leupold better. And their customer service puts Burris to shame. We have sent 2 back to Leupold and both have been repaired and returned in short order (last one was back in under 2 weeks). Sent a Burris back that developed a wandering zero. Received a it back with a note saying there wasnt anything wrong with it.
