Finally joined the Old Model 45 Club

I just traded into this unconverted, 1971-vintage, OM 45 Blackhawk this weekend. I much prefer the 4 5/8" version, but who knows if I'll ever get another chance at one I could get. I haven't even cleaned it up or shot it; but thought I'd share my joy, in case I don't fully bond with it and end up trading it before everyone knows I'm in the Club.

Am I in the minority who prefer the 4 5/8" 45's to the 7 1/2", or do the majority prefer them?

I also like the 4 5/8" Barrels but have a few longer ones too.
I'm a .44 shooter but would love to find an old model .45

If you are in the minority for liking the 4-5/8" bbl, I'm there with you. I like a gun to be easy to pack, quick to get into action. I like handguns to be "handy" The 7-1/2" guns are kind of seat of the truck guns to me. That is one beautiful gun though, congratulations.

I usually prefer shorter barrels, but on OM 45 Colts I like the 7.5". BTW, that's an exceptionally clean Ruger you have there. Nice find.

Love the OM 45's - I like the 7.5" most but shorty works too. You will enjoy it, good fine.

I have two 3 screw .45 cal. shooters; one 4-5/8" and one 7-1/2". I like both lengths.
