I have found out through the years that I just prefer the short barrel. Guess it started out when I had a Smith 29 (8 3/8) cut to 5".

The 45 is the last OM to join the other Rugers in the box. This one was ironically listed on the auction site as an OM 357 and since it wore a XR3 grip frame and hard rubber grips I guess it kind of slipped under the radar. The brass frame stashed upstairs bolted right up to make an Axehandle/Carl version of a west coast home boy brassie. I am not sure if it will stay in this configuration for long but for now it will wear the brass and walnut.

Where is the Bisley hammer? That thing deserves at least a SBH hammer...

David Clements said the bisley spurred hammers are cut out but he won't get them finished until next week. Once he gets them done then two of them along with two wide old model smooth triggers are headed this way. One of each will go on this gun and the wide serrated trigger shown will go away.

I noticed that 44 Ft sneaking into that picture Chief! It is interesting in looking at that gun, it's hammer is shaped almost identical to the hammers on my TLA guns. This is the brother to the top gun in your shot.

Kings6, Great news about the Clements' hammers. i've been waiting for quite a while for a Bisley to replace a broken original on my OM45 and get the conversion pieces out. Now I'll be watching the mailbox.... Tim

David said earlier this week that the parts are cut out, he just needs to finish them then start filling orders.

Well once again I couldn't leave well enough alone. Both the Stroh front sight and the Bowen rear sight arrived today and the Powers two piece steel gripframe and the Clements hammer should be here by the time I get back from the wedding. The #5 basepin slid right in too. Oh well, hopefully the brass frame felt loved enough just by being bolted on that it won't get it's feelings hurt too bad. Oh I almost forgot, the old model 45 ACP cylinder should be here by next week as well. Once all the parts are here then it is a question of who it goes to and what the one piece grips will be made from. Any suggestions for grip material?

I have both a 7.5 and 4 5/8" .45 Blackhawk. I vastly prefer the shorter tube for field use but the longer barrel gives you a few more yards went hunting.

I have two OM 45's. All I have are "rescues". This one is down at Alan Harton's. Project list: Strip Nickel, Weld d&t'd topstrap, touch up lettering/polish, add SBH GF, SBH hammer & SBH trigger. This one is down at Jack Huntington's getting the loading gate damage welded up. (It did not letter with that brass grip frame, which lives on my .44 flattop now) Project list: No.5 grip frame fom Bisley & XR3-RED, PC Bisley hammer, OA wide smooth trigger, Stroh Front, Bowen Rear, NM Cylinder & Barrel, CCH.
