I keep coming back to these pictures. The Security/Service/Speed Six series has always been one of my two favorite revolvers.
The subtle change to the front of the front sight ramp, and especially the lug, make such a big difference. It brings out an underlying elegance I'd never noticed in them. I've never cared for the later "heavy," non-profiled barrels and especially dislike the "full underlug" on many revolvers. These were cost-cutting measures hyped as "improvements." Maybe an improvement for a range gun/target or hunting gun, but still cost-cutting measures which detracted from the sleekness of the more traditional barrels. I'll say the same for the scallop on the recoil shield. I always thought the bulbous originals looks a bit odd. Still, I loved them.
Those grips are exquisite. Yeah, they're lookers alright, but that's a given coming from your shop. Most factory-profile grips are too bulky for me. It's not easy to find grips which aren't too "long," front to back and an exposed backstrap is usually my preference. Your grips cover the backstrap, but do not add much girth at all. Those look very comfortable.
These are amazing guns and I've never had one which did not shoot extremely well. I remember buying these used in the mid-eighties for a hundred-fifty bucks! I see them being offered now for four times that. I really don't think most of today's $900 to $1200 revolvers compare favorably with the "Six-Series" DAs, so even at $600, the Security Six is still a great value.
