Well after being retired for a couple years I was talking to the owner of my local gun shop and he mentioned they were looking to hire some help. It looks like I will be going to work for them shortly at least part time. I wonder if I will owe them money on paydays? This could be an expensive job.

I hope it works out nice for ya. I considered it myself, having a love of firearms.
There was a local gunsmith, he was always smiling, and you could tell he just loved everything about firearms. I spent many an hour in there talking and learning.
It doesn't really matter what you're doing, the folks you work with make all the difference.

Congrats on the new job. I've been hunting a 2nd issue Colt Detective Special in .38spl for a good while now, and coincidentally have been on the hunt for new friends. Now that we're best buds, maybe keep your eyes peeled in that new gig of yours. In all seriousness, hope it works out. It is always a joy for the customer to spend money with the guy who loves his work.

I have spent a lot of time in gun shops and the gun counters back when Sears, Montgomery Wards, JC Penny’s and other department stores sold guns. I may not be the smartest guy in the room but I don’t know how many clerks my 13 year old self helped out when a customer asked to see a certain gun and I had to point it out to them. I guess my addiction will be cured one day. I hope a few people show up to pay their respects then😜

So, is this job going to make you money or cost you money? I'm afraid it'd be a poor career choice for me...

It might be a bad choice. When I picked up my Marlin yesterday they had a Colt “Frontier Six Shooter” in the display case. I might have a closer look when I find out what the employee discount is😎

Make sure you ask Axehandle how to navigate working at a gun shop and actually taking home pay! Oh wait……….🤣

I'm too poor to take a job like that. Kinda like asking a fat cop to make donuts! 😁

I work in a gun shop for about for 5 yrs full and part time and the biggest problem was “ I got tired of talking guns, reloading and hunting all the time and customers would see at the range and want me to fix their gun help with their problems or just want to BS all the time. On the plus side I meet so real great friends there!

A dream job for sure, especially if the shop is a bit more rural where real steel still prevails.

They do have a lot of Glocks and ARs but they also have a good selection of revolvers and wood stocked shotguns and rifles

I worked at a shop during covid. Was nice to have that and my pay from my classes going online. I learned a lot. Mostly that having a gun industry business is hard and not something I care to pursue. Some great people come in and some terrible. I always wondered why the owner didnt seem that excited about neat guns, its because he is 70 years old and talked guns with random people every day since he graduated high school.
