I try to make light of most situations, like hurricanes before they hit. Can't joke afterwards. I'm leaving to go to Perry Florida where the eye hit, on the 20th for 6 days. Hurricane Milton is over by Mexico and heading our way

I'm reading forecasts ranging from Cat 2-4. So many variables in Hurricane Forecasting.
Unusual path forecast as well. Spaghetti Models are almost all in agreement. Tampa seems to be the bullseye. Will be interesting to watch this one and see if that remains intact.
The east hasn't even got power restored from Helene. Guess this will extend the damage south.

The gulf is hot. Two days over that and my thoughts are definitely not His thoughts.

Grew up in Panhandle and used to drive through Perry on the way to visit The Boss in Tampa while I was working on PhD at FSU. Michael nailed "home" a few years ago, and I have friends in Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater still cleaning up from Helene. It's *not* going to be pretty. Grew up riding out hurricanes as a kid and young man, but these are a lot bigger, stronger and more destructive than they used to be.

Yeah, being from SW Louisiana and a retired mariner of 40 years, I've dealt with a few.
This summer was particularly calm in the Gulf. The lack of waves doesn't let the water cool off. Wind isn't a Mariner's friend, but does mean cooler water.
A slow moving storm will actually churn the water longer and cool it off.
We're getting a cold front tomorrow. Hopefully it will be followed by more...

Unusual indeed!!!
If this storm hits Florida, it will only be the 3rd Hurricane in history that originated in The Bay of Campeche to do so...

Jaime, I've a nephew and family in Gibsonton. They got off pretty well with Helene. He graduated from FSU. this new storm will more closely dead center my family and a couple of friends too. I've fished the Bay when it and the Gulf are warmer than usual and it messes with the fishing for sure.

Well: I have been smowbirding in FL for the 27 years I have been retired had to rebuild after the 05s. Looks as this next one will be bad, I will just sit it out here in Co and hope everyone makes it through. Went by D. Clement's house and shop with a revolver a few year ago looks as if he is high enough to be out of any water. Good luck everyone, Pray some it helps. Have a nice day Don K.

FDOT closed office buildings yesterday, but many hands have been out in St. Pete helping to clean up the mess from Helene.
We are not in a flood zone, and rode out Ian, Nicole, Helene with not much of a problem. Most damage is from storm surge and flooding, but I'm concerned more with winds from a direct hit at CAT 3 and above. We had gusts of 90-95 mph with Ian. For our area they are saying 50 - 80 mph but it all depends where landfall ultimately hits.

Has a few trees down and was without power five days. But, home and property all just fine.

Direct hit on the Bay will be nasty. If you change your mind, we've got an extra room and plenty of space in Birmingham. Jamey

Jamey We have offers from friends and family in Orlando, near Macon Georgia, and Fayetteville Arkansas. I just spoke with a group of neighbors. We're not worried. If we were in a bad spot, we'd already be gone. All the barrier islands, keys, etc., were trashed by Helene and will likely get a 2nd round of nasty flooding and battering this time, too. Low spots near Tampa Bay, St. Pete, Clearwater, etc. all got flooded, too. I have 2 friends at work that were flooded, both in Tampa near the bay or canals straight off the bay.

Several of the tracking entities now have Milton tracking more southward differing from the National Weather Service (NWS) so it's possible that the folks more up north may be able to breathe a sigh of relief. Now there's the possibility that overnight and early tomorrow it may act like Wilma did and come across the peninsula and whack us like Wilma did.
Stay tuned to the weather folks!

Trending down around Sarasota now from what I heard. That's still only about 40 miles from us so we'll still get some wind. The storm is going to cover a wide area, but being away from the center of the landfall will make it much more bearable.
