Have you ever bought a gun that ends up being much, much, better than anticipated? An auction house a couple hours down the road had two of Johns guns that they were going to auction off. The first was a 475 barrel banded Bisley that looked to be wearing a set of Dustin's grips. The other was a Super Blackhawk in 45 colt that John built to commemorate 20 years of building guns. Looked to be a 6 shot gun in the pictures and given the date is probably also wearing Dustin's grips. Beyond that they didn't have any details and not much could be gleaned from the pictures. I ended up passing on the 475 and winning the Super. Long story short, it is a 6 shot gun (haven't measured it yet to see if it's oversized). Full build on a 357 NM gun that John fit with a SBH gripframe and a free spin cylinder made to fit the frame. The grips look to be Dustin's, but I'll pull them and check when I get a minute. The barrel is marked with Johns old 45 colt logo, and most surprising is that the fitted case was made by Marvin Huey! To cap it off, I got it home and wiped off all the fingerprints and found the gun is in new condition.    |

Congratulations! Best I could tell from the pictures is that gun indeed has an oversized cylinder. I thought John had built some 40kpsi-capable six shooters. I'm curious if my hunch is correct.
I was pretty busy at work today, but parked my forklift long enough to drop a low-ball bid on the 475. The gun went for the amount of my bid, but not to me.
Two very nice revolvers that went for very reasonable amounts.

Very nice. Hard to tell from the photos, but my guess is the cylinder is oversized. I downloaded the third photo and blew it up. The serial number looks pretty close to the frame window. Which suggests he opened it up. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time" |

Thanks guys! My sense looking at it was the cylinder was oversized. Measured it this morning and it is indeed oversized, numbered to the gun with johns measurements stamped on the front of the frame next to the basepin just like on his 5 shot guns. Also pulled the grips, and they are by Dustin. The grip frame has been decked and some material removed from the front strap to give your fingers a bit more room. feels really nice, and I hope to get it out to shoot in the next couple weeks.

Nice score. I bid on both of those Linebaugh guns but sadly had to stop due to the dreaded internet premium. I knew I should have taken a half day…. I hope you enjoy it!

I went in person with the intention of walking out with both Linebaugh's. At the end of the day I decided with several 500s and no 475s I didn't need the trouble of stocking bullets brass and reloading supplies to gear up for another caliber. if I'd had been a 500 I'd probably be posting pictures of that one too  . I think the auction house really didn't know what they had with either gun and combined with their high online bidding fees worked to keep the prices reasonable. |

Are there any rules against naming the auction house? I think I could get in a pile of trouble in a venue like that!
