Shooting a buddies 6.5 Creedmore scoped Nosler pistol yesterday and we were both getting easy hits out to 400 yards on steel off the bench. With a bit more KY windage, elevation and dead reckoning we managed to hit out past 600 yards. AND I don’t particularly like hand rifles.
If I wasn’t knee deep in .308 rifles I’d probably get a 6.5 Manbun.

I've got a 15" Encore 6.5x55. It's quite amazing in a pistol length barrel...

243. Better for the varmints but perfectly capable on deer.
The 6.5C often lacks availability for good true varmint bullets and the twist rates in most factory rifles favor the heavier bullets

Although I dont own one (at least yet), I would go 6.5 Creed. I shoot quite a bit of 6.5x55 for ranch use so it hits everything from half a pound to 500 pounds. 6.5 Creed ammo is going to be easier to find and cheaper than 243 Win, at least for the next 10 years or so. True varmint bullets for the 6.5 rifles are a little harder to find, true. A half pound critter shot with a 120 grain bullet is as dead as shot with an 87 grain bullet. The 243 was meant for 100 grain bullets but I have seen rifles that struggle to shoot a 100 grain bullet well. Brass for the 6.5 will be easier to find due to it's popularity. The list goes on, but were I to buy just one, it would be (and I cant believe the words are coming out of my mouth) the 6.5 Creed. Remington really failed us on the 260 Remington which would have been better for hunting IMO without the bad reputation of being a barrel burner of the 6.5 Mag / 264 Winchester.

I’ve been killing deer with the .243 for 20 years. Longest shot 417 yards. I’ve never lost one. With that being said, I believe the Nosler partition is nearly required for shots behind the shoulder. I was taught to shoot them in the neck for DRT’s. The few I have shot behind the shoulder have left nearly zero blood trail with the exception of a double lung shot that missed ribs on both sides and painted the woods red. What I’m saying is that if you shoot 10 deer, 9 of them will not have a pass through with standard 100 grain loadings. I have killed a few deer with the 6.5 CM as well and the results were not enough different to convince me I should leave the 243 behind.

Much would depend on what it will get used for the most, a good point was made that lighter varmint weight bullets are lacking for 6.5 vs 6mm. If mostly medium game is on the menu then by all means go 6.5, if mostly varmints I’d have to go 6mm. I just put the finishing touches on a new to me 6BR, and with 80gr. Monometal bullets am getting 3000fps. I plan on it being a cross use gun for varmints and deer/antelope. The 80’s should be completely suitable for medium game, and lighter 70-75gr. for use on varmints like PDogs, jackrabbits, rockchucks and coyotes. I’ve also got 100gr. and 95gr. Nosler partitions if the 80gr. Monos do not work as hoped.

Neither, because I’m a dinasour and already have components and dies for a 7mm 08. Other than a grins and giggles 6.5 Grendel evil gun, the newest round I have a gun for is 327 and I haven’t even put that cylinder in the gun it was made for. It wears the 32-20 cylinder all the time.

.243 Winchester
There's no reason to jump on the CM bandwagon.

6.5CM. I had this one built for my son. It’s an absolute laser. When he was 10-11, he shot it for the first time. 1 shot was an inch high on the turkey, the next 7 were hits at 450 yards. He killed his first deer with it two years ago his first trip out and is ready to take it again he told me last week. 140 Berger hybrids over H4350 is your friend.
