Going to pick up my new squirrel gun tomorrow, in 50AK or 50-110. 18” HEAVY barrel. I’ll be looking for a large scout type peep sight for the rear. It’s 3/8 dovetail in the front. I need to get a hold of Andy at Skinner sights to see what they offer. I’ll bet he can steer me in the right direction

Old Rocky the squirrel best be on the lookout as hiding on the other side of the tree is no longer a safe option.

Well how about that. Lance Streets is just finishing up my .50-110 #1 next week.
Mine will have a 23" barrel and the standard .375 H&H taper though.
Look forward to seeing yours!

Just got home, walked it out to the shop, I’ll get a couple pics tomorrow. It is very heavy, but the shirt barrel balances and swings well. This one is using the original furniture, but it had a very long and heavy barrel chambered in 38-56. It’s now 18” plus a large radial brake. Any suggestions on a set of express sights for this would be appreciated. The other build is a 20” Heavy Octagon 45-90 (ruger no1) with a spatter coat stock. That’s almost done from another builder.

Here’s next to an 1895 in 50AK, 20” barrel A WWG conversion with the Kevlar stock. ( recognize that JO?) also the converted Browning High Grade in 50AK, that will single feed 50-110’s too. That’s a 16.5” barrel. That .510 hole in the end makes them fairly light.

The Ruger no 1 is from Wayne York, at Oregunsmithing, as is the Browning 71, the marlin is a Wild west Guns. The only other .510 lever I have ( these are all lever guns, single or multiple shot) is the 1895 marlin that John Linebaugh built, and called it the reason he would never build another one!

Just had a wonderful conversation with Rob at Skinner Sights, and we figured out a rear sight that was the most appropriate For this application. Something to try out next week. The peep aperture is medium size, but by removing it, it will double the view opening for very quick sight Acquisition. If I find the skinner rear to work well, I can figure out the correct bead height.
