Nothing screams custom like an Octagon or Round with a barrel band.

Going back thru some photos and ran across this. Shot FA83 500 JRH off the the back of my truck's tonneau rested on small back pack at 52 yrds with a 4x Leupold. The 26.6 was H4227, the HS6 was 15.0gr. . . I have three fa83s - the the 500 shown above, a 475 LB, and a .454 casull (the most accurate revolver I have ever owned). I wish I could still shoot them but age is catching up with me and kids/grandkids have no desire to hunt with handgun s or interest in big bore handguns. Also worried about leaving "empty chamber under firing pin" requirement to the unknowing. . The FA83 500 JRH above is one of my all time favorites

I really like the looks of the octagon barreled revolvers. When I had my BFR 500JRH done, I asked for the octagon barrel. At the time, I didn't know that they did a half octagon... When I had John build my 500 Linebaugh I had to ask very nicely. He said that he really preferred to do the round barrels... After it was done, I was talking with him and he said that he was glad that I had him do the octagon barrel with the Ebony grips. He really liked the looks and began offering it. This is a picture he had on his website that looks really close to my gun, but I think the barrel is just a tad shorter than mine. This one is mine with a 5 1/2? barrel.

Some really nice guns accompanied by great information.
To me, the 500 JRH just makes more sense. Certainly no better or lesser than any other, just suits me.
Brass formed from 500 S&W will require Rifle Primers. But, that's not a huge deal.
This gun will be a twin to my Octagon FA83 454 Casull. When I get the 500 JRH like I want it, the 454 will get upgrades too.

Check Aria's website. They have an announcement that they are making a run of 500WE +p marked brass. I would imagine it's not going to be cheap, but it has me considering one now. Once I do get one, it will more than likely go to Ronnie Wells for a 500jrh cylinder and a gripframe.

Bought this one from Jason a couple years ago...started out as a 4.25" .500WE that he sent to Jack with a .454 cylinder to be bored out and fitted...Jack I believe also did an action job...great shooter. Bob

If I do another one (who am I kidding, when I do another one) I want Jack to build a 5” FA 83 in .475 Linebaugh or .500 JRh. I will have to ask him if he could do an ovate barrel like Bowen makes, if not an octagon would be the next choice.

That was pretty much the choices I landed on too.
The 500 JRH was offered a much wider selection of bullets. Cast, coated cast, jacketed and plated are all available.
Once Michael posted that Octagon Barreled Ruger, it reminded me of my Octagon Barrel FA83.
I've got to decide on grips. The existing grips are laminated. But, a Dark Oak Color instead of the current "Winewood" used. I dunno if I'll change them or not...

Look at some Desert Ironwood for the handle. It has become my favorite material. Both of these are by Chig’s grips that I sent the frame to him for fitting. The ones on the FA 83 are dark and hard to photograph (at least by me) and look fantastic in person. A lighter example on the ROA
