With all my excitement about my S&W .327 K frame I forgot one important component. I just realized I didn’t have any brass!!! I checked Starline and they were out but luckily Midway came to my rescue and I have a couple hundred headed my way. I am thinking about a cast HP around 113 grs or so (thanks Sixshot) ahead of a good dose of H110 (have lots of it) might be able to push it fast enough (I think 1500 -1600 FPS is a reasonable goal) to turn a deer heart into mush. I am open to any insights or suggestions. I have been reading up on here on Fermin’s and others posts on the .327 and have been mighty impressed. I have always been a big bore guy with the .45 Colt, .480 Ruger, .454 Casull and .500 Linebaugh but must admit that the .337 has me excited to try the small bore. It might just be the perfect hunting round for Florida.

Freedom Arms has had 500 packs of primed 327 brass. Worth a call to check, and very reasonably priced given the cost of primers.

I HAVE ONLY LOADED 100gr HP XTP's IN THE 327, AND ONLY USING LONGSHOT. THERE IS A hell'uva THREAD ON THE 32/327's ON HERE SOMEWHERE AND BRIAN PEARCE HAD A GREAT ARTICLE ON LOADING THE 327. LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE WHAT LOADS YOU COME UP WITH, AND WHAT YOUR FIELD RESULTS MAY BE.
I HAVE INQUIRED, IN THE OLD HANDGUN HUNTERS FORUM, AND MAYBE ON THIS FORUM, ABOUT 327 DEER KILLS, AND VERY, VERY FEW HAVE DONE IT/REPORTED ON IT.
THIS MAY BE A GOOD THREAD TO ASK ABOUT INFO ON 327 DEER KILLS, SO THOSE THAT HAVE DONE IT, OR TRIED TO DO IT, PLEASE PROVIDE SOME INFO.

I too would love to hear actual results. I would include Pronghorn too and other deer size game as relevant. Where I hunt a 185 lb deer is HUGE and I know some of you would think that is a tiny deer so I am just trying to set expectations.

Do a search over on Gunblast.com.
Seems I recall Jeff having some rocks and dynamite loads listed…

I have one load for my Freedom Arms 327. Hornady 100gr XTP and max load of h110 from the Hodgdon site. It's flat, fast and shoots tiny groups.

HERE IS MY THINKING ON LOAD LEVELS FOR A K FRAME S&W: 1) ITS A K FRAME: 2) LONGEVITY WILL BE AIDED BY LIGHTER BULLETS, e.g. 100gr, MAYBE UP TO 115gr, REMEMBER IT IS A K FRAME; 3) HEAVY BULLET/TOP END LOADS WILL BATTER THE GUN LIKE A 357 MAG MIGHT, REMEMBER IT IS A K FRAME; and 4) REMEMBER, IT IS A K FRAME. JUST MY THINKING ON HOW I AM GOING TO LOAD FOR MY BOWEN 327 K FRAME.

I am going to find a load that is accurate at a decent velocity to use for hunting deer but I will treat the gun as I would a Model 29 and not use a steady diet of the heavy load. I hope to find a 100 gr load that I will be able to use the same sight setting for smaller game and practice. Might have to come up with a wadcutter load for Turkey

Ronnie, you haven't mentioned how long the cylinder is. But, the GT 115 grn HP has no competition hunting. It's a tremendous performer...

I will measure it in the morning. I have dropped in some 100 gr soft point factory ammo and they were well short of the end of the cylinder. I know that doesn’t really tell us anything

I have taken one Pronghorn with the 135 gr Ferminator (sledgehammer) using my 8 shot Blackhawk. It was 5-6 years ago & is the only big game animal I've shot at with it. Antelope aren't very big but this was an impressive kill because it went down so fast, it only went 10-15 yds & dropped & I think I got an exit, not sure but Bill Fowler would know, he's got a memory like a dictionary. That bullet, even though it is a HP has a long shank & if it will fit your cylinder it will work on deer size game. My shot was 74 yds, iron sights & about 1300 fps using H110. Try them sized .313" & .314" just to be sure. Same with the Buckeye 32-20 if you have one. Another good bullet is the 113-115 gr GC HP, if you powder coat them you can make a dandy hunting bullet. I watched Matt Grabbe do a Rock Chuck at 154 yds with my 32-20 Buckeye a few years ago & he flipped it like a pancake.
