Not abrupt at all to me, typical you as I've known you all those years. I grew up in that 50 era and I too know a lot. Likewise I have people calling and emailing me, but my ego isn't as huge as yours.
You know you have the gun to blow the door off that 454 Casull, the AR 10 that I built for you in the 45 Raptor. It would even be softer recoiling with the pogo stick buffer and gas system. I'll tell you one I have and that's the 450 Bushmaster. I've already shot your 45 Ruger only bullet from it and it did damn good. Remember you telling me about it and that it would shoot. It sure did. Only two rifles I haven't tried that bullet from is my Marlin 94 and Win 94. I don't think I'll try to push it in the Winnie as it has a really fat chamber, but the Marlin does not, it's very tight as I've mentioned. Have to see how the bullet seats. Will also have to see what the Marlin can take in +P loads. I have some friends that are shooting some heavy jacketed loads from their Marlins using WW 296. Here are two loads FOR MY RIFLE USE AT YOUR OWN RISk. Your 302 Ruger Only bullet over top 38 grains of AA1680 for 1916 fps using a larger rifle primer case and 30 grains of LiL Gun with the 302 Ruger Only bullet for 1872 fps also LR primer case. That one gave me 1/2 inch five shot groups. You can load that last one with a SR primer still get the 1/2 inch group, but the velocity dropped to 1822 fps. For those of you wondering where I'm getting the LR primer cases I'll tell you, they are 284 Win cases.

My thought is to duplicate the original Winchester smokeless 45-90 express load, which runs at 1500 to 1600fps with a 300gr cast bullet, depending on barrel length from the 1886. Such a rifle load would generate relatively mild pressure. Hodgdon’s data shows 300 grain cast and jacketed bullet loads with 5744 that might be ideal. Their loads are fired from a 9.3”’barrel, but shouldn’t run super fast in a 20” tube. You can beat yourself up with full on 454 loads, but your gun and your shoulder will like the mild loads much better. hodgdonreloading.com/rldc/?t=2

NOT SURE I CAN DESCRIBE THE LOOSENESS OR TIGHTNESS OM MY WINCHESTER MODEL 94 45 COLT, OTHER THAN TO SAY THAT THE CHAMBER DIMENSIONS APPEAR TO BE OK. WHAT I WILL DO IS TRY SOME RESIZED BULGED CASES AND SEE IF THEY FIT IN THE WINCHESTER.

Okay, with starline brass and a +P load, not a real hot one, my case expands at the web and the case almost looks rebated. It's a huge increase in diameter. Primer looks fine flat with rounded corners. So I quit shooting hotter loads in it.

45man where to you buy those .452 COR-BON 305gr FMJ FLAT POINT bullets? FROM COR-BON, GOT COR-BON TO GO FROM RN TO FP, 305gr vs 320gr (CONCERNS OVER THE SLOW TWIST IN THE FA 454), AND DOUBLE CANNELURED SO I COULD LOAD IN 45 COLT BRASS TO SAME OAL AS A 454.

I finally got a bunch of rather unconventional ammo loaded and took the rifle over to a friends house that plays with a Casull pistol and rifle. Those lighter loads are real penetrators as they blew up the six milk jugs on his set-up. A 200 gr hollow base flat nose not going over 1,300 fps will kill most anything shot properly. The real thrill was his handgun load. His chrono’d at 1,450 out of his handgun with a 345 gr bullet. Out of my rifle it gave 1,945 fps and was rather exciting to shoot (quite manageable with quite heavy recoil). Cases aren’t bulged or deformed more than you would expect with any mid range load. Starline 454 Casull cases were used in all loads. My first use of a Labrador unit also. The only thing I missed in the opening post is this is a Puma, not a Rossi 454 I said it was. A very nice rifle with enough power to be of real use.

I have a new stainless one in the safe, but I have not even put a shell in it yet.
