This morning I worked on getting the bony core out of this set of Bighorn horns. A little (lot) of judicious rubber mallet blows and both cores came loos from the Bondo adhesive and slid right out. Next will be deciding how to cut them up to send off for stabilizing. A lot of prep work goes into converting these curly things into milled pieces that can be stabilized then made into grip panels.

Another day, another antique piece of farm equipment. Dee says, "Have you ever run a disc?" "Nope" say I. "Hop up there and I'll show you how to run it." "Okie dokie!" Now I have run a disc tractor. Just remember...you always have to turn left, unless you need to turn right, and then you have to raise the discs. When you shift in or out of 2nd gear you need to jam the stick HARD to the right or else you will jam up the shifter or tranny or something. When starting hold the red button down until the oil pressure gets up to...I don't remember what level, just hold it for awhile. Retirement is marvelous!

Did some action work on my flattop 44Spl today - very happy with it. Polished the tip of the hammer strut. Polished the bottom of the cyl stop and tip of the plunger. Polished the back of the pawl and its plunger tip too. Polished the centers of the hammer and trigger pins. The face of the transfer bar took the longest, but it's flat and smooth now. Oiled, reassembled, and wow, what a difference.
The trigger return spring was swapped a long time ago, and the trigger is great as is - you have to try to feel for the little bit of creep it has. The cyl has very very little play, but I don't have feeler gauges to give #s. I should get some and a trigger scale eventually. I can see how this little bit of effort can spoil you compared to production gun quality.
