I have been loading .45LC with 8.0 and 8.5 gn of Unique. But I would like to develop a load which is one step up, using ~255 to 260 gn SWC in a large frame Vaquero and Winchester 92 reproduction. I decided not to just increase the amount of Unique, but to look at other powders. This would be a large game load. This does not have to be an equivalent to .44 Mag but something a little over 1,000 fps, clean burning. I have 110, but rarely load magnum anything. To date I have only used Unique in .45LC at 8.5 gn max. Are there any iconic loads for this purpose that are as accepted as 8.5 gn of Unique has become? And I do want a load that works in both the revolver and rifle - so the revolver defines the upper limit. I would appreciate any advice based on personal experience - though I will use manuals as my ultimate reference.

H110 needs to be up loaded not down loaded. A nice plinking, light hunting load if you have 2400, is 17.0 grains in .44 mag or .45 Colt with 240-265 grain bullets. Safe in S&W’s but enough to get over 1000fps. I usually go warmer, but you wanted a light to medium go to load. I think John’s 45 Colt load was 13.5 of HS-6, for a comfortable mountain gun load.

I've had good luck using 13.0 gr HS-6 or 10 gr Power Pistol using that weight range of bullets in my 45 Colt. I don't have any velocity info but those are definitely a tick above 8.5 gr Unique.

13.0 gr HS-6 or 10 gr Power Pistol Should clarify, I don't have any experience hunting out west or really big game. I hunt whitetail here in NC and it's woods distances in the neighborhood of 20 to 40 yards. Under those circumstances the moderate loads I use is sufficient.

ONE OTHER NOTE: GENERALLY, THE SLOWER THE POWDER THE MORE THE VELOCITY INCREASE IN A LONGER RIFLE BARREL BUT FOR THE MV fn1899m IS LOOKING FOR I WOULD JUST STICK WITH UNIQUE.

2400, 4227, and HS-6 all can achieve good results in a .45 Colt in the range you seek for the purposes you may desire.

Contender nailed it on useful powders, you can add Titegroup and Universal Clays for loads that run mid range on the power scale, 900-1100fps. The Hodgdon site usually lists 45 colt loads for pistol and rifle, so you can see what type of gains you’ll get from a rifle.

Haha! The closest I come to an animal that size was in the 70's. I was a little kid running around in the woods pretending to be a big game hunter. Me and my Red Ryder killed a lot of bear, elk and moose.

Hunting NC big game, if you live in the mountains or coast, can involve some rather sizeable black bear as well. It's not unusual for there to be a 400+ pounder around even here in Gaston county. Given that fact, I usually tailor my hunting loads towards them.
I like Universal, but it's impossible to find right now. Power Pistol has shown to be a decent midrange powder. I use Shooters World Heavy Pistol under the 250-280gr class 45C loads as well.
When in a bear area, if I want to carry the 45C, I load a 300+gr bullet to 1100fps from the 4-5/8" Blackhawk. Easy to shoot, but will break bones and drive deep. I have never chosen the 45C as a bear hunting round, but my father swore by it with Ruger-only loads using 240gr hp for deer. If I recall correctly, he used 2400 powder. It did well on them, until he switched to the Contender in 35Rem exclusively.
I would suggest instead of trusting internet forum load data in general that you subscribe to Loaddata.com. It's about the price of a loading manual but includes data from the powder and bullet manufacturers, as well as reputable sources such as Handloader magazine and published proven data from writers like Mr Taffin.

Two very good loads that are somewhat standard & were used a great deal by Silhouette shooters was 18.5 grs of 2400 or 20.0 grs of 4227. Not maximum loads but definitely beyond the loads you mention above. The 2400 load uses a standard LP primer, you might try standard & magnum with the 4227, usually the magnum works best. This was with the 250-260 gr bullets mentioned.
