Having a background in precision rifles has probably hindered my advancement in the revolver game somewhat... Good night, son!! That is impressive! Just got back from a walk and there's just a trickle of breeze left out there. But it was full throttle this afternoon. Having stood out in it, that group seems almost impossible.

cant wait to get together to burn some powder. gonna be in Kansas for more than a few days in april. if you have time, maybe we can get together and do some shooting. I'll bring a couple 44's and a bunch of ammo and we will try to wear out those steel targets. Absolutely! Bring some coolers and you can try to wear out some pigs too. As a sideline…….years ago if you went to eastern Kansas you could cruise up to see John and have pie and coffee at Greys truck stop. And shoot at the 400 yard jug. Good days

Id imagine it was as much luck as anything, but i loaded 50 more rounds this evening to find out for sure. 😁 Hope to have time tomorrow evening to give it another go.

Having a background in precision rifles has probably hindered my advancement in the revolver game somewhat. Rifle fundamentals are VERY easy to master vs the handgun and so i spent most of my time shooting ELR or chasing tiny groups. I have been focused more with my handguns on bench shooting and groups than actually learning the fundamentals of handgunning. Seeing all of the fine marksmanship posted here and especially seeing what cholla can do with his fixed sighted ubertis got me thinking about getting away from the bench and really mastering the handgun. For the last two evenings i have been shooting unsupported iron sights at 100yds. Its fun and the clang of the steel is very satisfying. I feel like ive really lept forward with my trigger control shooting this way and ive often been leaving a chamber or two empty to keep myself honest. So i painted my targets and decided to shoot some "deep seated" 255's over 10gr of universal for 1200fps out of a BFR 44mag. I wanted to see if i was actually holding a group or just clanging steel. 10 rounds fired and 10 hits later this is what i have. Im tickled. The load has never been put on paper so i dont even know what its potential is and The wind is howling so im going to blame some of the horizontal on that! Just the fact that i was able to squeeze off 10 shots with no panic or loss of control is a great feeling for me. You can see my 125yd target in the background. I went 5 for 6 on it. Its amazing how much difference 25yds makes with these open sights. EXCELLENT shooting Chuck!!

I tell you what, a 7.5" BFR gets AWFUL HEAVY after a while holding it out there at arms length. I shot one of my OM Blackhawk .357's as well and its like holding a toy cap gun compared to the BFR. The lighter gun seems steadier unsupported but i was out of 357 ammo before i decided to try for a group.

Had a few minutes so i sent 11 rounds down range on top Of those from yesterday. Why 11? Started with a full cylinder and decided to delete one out or the second cylinder to make sure im keeping my trigger control honest. I neber would have imagined a week ago that i would be keeping free hand shots like this together at 100yds with a moderately spicy 44 mag load! I guess where there is a will there is a way. Have yet to miss. I think ill run the rest of the rounds i have loaded on this target before i paint it. If i can put 50+ on target without a miss, first rounds on me!

A bad guy would have been in deep doo-doo with you popping at him ! I used to shoot my SBH .44 at gopher mounds on a hillside after mowing the pasture. I usually rested my forearms over my truck tool box while standing against it. It’s surprisingly easy to walk those bullets into the target at long handgun distances. I followed every thing that Elmer wrote in those days and often wished I had the front sight with the gold bars on it for elevation. It would have been much easier to be consistent !

First cylinder was great. I missed on the second cylinder. Sight picture looked good, No anticipation, no duress, no FLINCH, i just MISSED! 🤷🏽♂️ Saved me some money i guess. 😁 Its calm now so maybe the wind was blowing all of my misses into the target.

Now it's time for you to start looking for a 357max so you really can wring out the longe range. Nothing like seeing a coyote cut a flip at 200+ yards.
