I've acquired a new to me 1894. I love the solid heft of the 24" barrel and the balance when shouldering the gun. I will have to find a rear sight, either an original or a Marbles, as I don't particularly care for the Skinner. Course since I'll be using a variety of ammo at various short ranges, I need the adjustment sight elevator. Very few marks on the gun, the worst of the scratches below. Anyone know how to make them not white? I haven't shot it yet, but it cycled some Lee 358-140-SWCs loaded in 38 Special cases that I had handy. I will have to get some bullets cast up as I'm out, but I have plenty of brass in both 357 Magnum and 38 Special. I really hope it likes the RCBS 38-150-SWC, as it's my go to bullet for 357 Magnum.

That rifle in 357 or the 32 is exactly what I've been looking for for quite some time. It would make for a great plinker and light game rifle.
Congratulations. That will be fun.

Very nice, the cowboys are the best looking 1894's . I'm sure you are aware that Skinner sight is missing it's aperture ? I have a rear sight off my 45 Colt cowboy you are welcome to.

That is a beautiful rifle!! Color me green with envy. I love the octogonal barrel also. Bet it makes for some steady shots.

Howdy, yes I agree they are the best looking 1894s. Yeah, I have the insert, but I removed it. I'll send you a message about the rear sight.

Nice score, you're going to love it. Those 357 mag lever guns grow on you.

Was in the lgs today, they had a JM 1895 45-70 Cowboy for $1300. If I wasn't in there ordering a youth 20 gauge for my son I would bought it. 9 plus 1 of 45-70s . If you need that, something has gone wrong.

I just noticed the Gransfors Bruks hatchet in the background, bonus taste points for you! I do love my hatchet. I take it with me most of the time when I'm out in the woods. My son and I like to go for a walk in the back, and bring back some sticks for kindling. Then we chop them up with the GB. It is a joy to use.

I was in my local hardware store and they had pens or markers with a large felt tip full of cabinet stain / finish. I wonder if you got one of those and shortly after applying could wipe off all excess if it would stain and fill in the scratch. The pens were like 4 or 5 dollars so not very expensive at all.

I've also used this lemon oil on gun stocks and had great results freshening them up and making scratches less noticeable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know what type of finish is on the stock, but when marred, it turns white obviously, which I don't care for.
I've seen those finish touchup pens. They might have some over at the other woodshop, it didn't occur to me to ask.

I haven't done much with the Marlin. I did install the sight sent by hounddogman, but it is way too low. Shots were 8" low at 50 yards with the sight at its highest setting. I'm not sure if it has an original front sight or not. For now I've returned the Skinner sight. I do have some new bullets to try though. I just cast up a mess of Lee TL358-158-SWC. I still have to lube and size them.
