Even though it shot low, how was the accuracy?
Use a fired case that was shot in the rifle. Start a long caliber appropriate bullet in the case, hand feed it in the chamber and close the bolt to seat the bullet to check the throat length. I just wonder if your rifle is like some other Marlins that have the overly generous throat. Not that it would affect your rifle shooting low but it might determine what size and over all length of bullets you need to get the most accuracy out of it.

I love my 1894 marlins. My 2 357s are my favorite. I have always wanted one like that with the longer octagonal barrel.

I didn't know that they were known for having a generous throat, thanks. I don't know how it groups. I didn't shoot it with the Skinner. It shot so low with the rear sight, that all of the shots were off target except one for a 3 shot string. Then when I raised the sight up, I only shot 1 shot, to see if it hit paper. I was messing with another gun and it was getting dark, so I didn't do any more.

Sorry that sight didn't work out. But the Skinner does give a nice sight picture. I used the Skinner on a few rifles and everyone needed a taller front sight .I currently have the XS rail on my 18 inch 357 and I am thinking about about a red dot or maybe a scout scope.

There is something quite perfect about a Marlin CB levergun. I don't have any in that caliber, but I have 45 Colt cowboy lever guns to keep me happy. They are some of my favorites. Good score picking that one up!

I got a mess of bullets cast up to try in my rifle. I have the Lee C358-158-SWC and the Lee TL358-158-SWC. I think I'll try the TL358-158-SWC unsized. I rarely do that, but they seem consistent enough.
