Lone Star Custom Grips: Snakewood

A fellow Forum member has a thing for snakewood that's contagious. He sent Zane a chunk of wood to have some grips made and there was enough left over to sell to me for another set. I sent Zane a frame and he did a such great job on them that I sourced some more wood and sent it South with some more frames. I just received the three new sets that some of you may have seen in Zane's postings. Here they are in their forever homes. Zane does SUCH a nice job.

You guys can check out Cooks Wood in Klamath Falls. That is where I bought the nice piece that Zane did my grips and Bushigs out of.

Do you remember the approximate size of the wood you got?

This one was an exhibition piece that was about 6”x1 1/4”x18”. We got several sets of grips and several sets of knife scales out of it. I just have scraps left of that piece.

Nice grips well done, but I would much prefer Curly Maple such as these grips I made on my 1911.

I imagine one could glue a snake skin to wood grips and coat them with a hard tough clear epoxy finish, but this thread is about the snakewood which is a pretty attractive different type of wood that is normally seen.
