I’m sure you could glue snake skin to a set of grips if you like the reptilian feel! I have an Osage orange long bow with green sturgeon hide on the face of the bow and it is beautiful.

I imagine one could glue a snake skin to wood grips and coat them with a hard tough clear epoxy finish, but this thread is about the snakewood which is a pretty attractive different type of wood that is normally seen. Been there, done that, long ago.

Been there, done that, long ago. Now that's what I'm talking about. Very nicely done!

Leopardwood is another exotic that has similar grain: Lacewood is another nice choice… One HUGE difference between Snakewood and Leopardwood,,,,,,, I can afford Leopardwood. To me, and I may be wrong, Leopard and Lacewood are the same thing. Cuts an interesting pattern but you have to be VERY careful matching the aspect of the panels or the two sides will look completely different. ask me how I know. Here is a couple of sets.

Jamey nobody needed to see that, meaning me. Second neckectomy is on March 5...once surgeon clears me to get back in the shop, hit me up (say around May) and I'll saw you off a piece...Bought a 4' piece of 8/4 solely to add to my exotic wood collection...Good friend is a world class plant pathologist and we team teach a class on wood...she covers the biology aspect one week, and I come in the next week and cover it from a woodworking perspective...You haven't seen interdiscipinary collaboration until you've seen a plant biologist and an accounting professor teach together...it's my favorite class of the year!

You guys can check out Cooks Wood in Klamath Falls. That is where I bought the nice piece that Zane did my grips and Bushigs out of. Something I didn’t appreciate the first time I saw the one piece set you had done for your FA, Is how rare that piece of stock must have been to have that kind of figure that would allow that kind of shaping and be highly figured throughout. Unreal!

Sturgeon hide is another sleeper right? At least to me it was. I hadn’t heard anything about it, I finally saw it the first time a couple of years ago, what a gorgeous thing to back a bow with. I don’t want to encourage this thread to go any further afield than i seemingly always do but I’d sure love to see a pic of the bow some day.
