That is about like an Orbendorf Mauser! Beautiful '03! I have one on an Argentine Mauser action I have yet to fire. I have a scope, dies, rings... just lacking the base.

I was on a site for old rifles like mine and one of the experts things it was made by A.O. Niedner. I haven't found any markings on it to refer to him. My God does it shoot cast like a target rifle even with my old bad eyes. 1/2 to 3/4 inche groups at 100 yards with one of booletdesigner's 35 caliber hollow point and that's with peeop sight. Hard for me to make out the target clearly.

Yes, absolutely Griffen and Howe quality. I love how it is inletted and the stock is slimmed. Bet it is like holding a 25 year old woman in a silk dress. Mmm, mmm, mmm. I do have to wonder about that steel buttplate and full house loads though. Hope the stock has enough drop to mitigate recoil. Kinda hard to tell in the pics.

These old classic rifles are just SEXY!

Besides the style of the rifle making me think it's an old classic gunsmith job, the 1903 action dates at 1911!!!!!! Old Elmer Keith had at 35 Whelen build on a 1903 Springfield and I heard tell of his shooting some 300 grain bullets at some crazy velocities. I was worried about my action, but like some of the experts I talked too told me that if it was one of the bad ones it would have been found out a long time go.
Trey I got a deal on some Speer 250 grain bullets so I tried some with 4064 powder. They weren't full hilt, but they weren't target loads either. Yeah she got some kick to her, but nothing one can't handle. I like you said holding a 25 year old woman in a silk dress!

I bought a Whelen on a Mauser action at a gun show. Nicely blued, never used. I could tell never used because the stock (plastic) didn't fit for sheit. Some bedding epoxy, a little cleanup and it is serviceable, not sevelt. I have a scope and rings, I just haven't measured out and bought a base yet.
I also bought last year a BSA London Enfield action in a wood stock. Has African express folding rear sight and a covered front. Under BSA London, England it has the bullet diameter, grain weight and velocity it was regulated for. I thought that was pretty cool. Looks similar to your Whelen. I like to think at some point mine was sent to Africa after WW1 for some adventure seeking Veteran to escape a little. Thats my story anyway!

If I were to get a bolt gun that's saddle worthy and capable of anything in Montana - that 35 whelan would be on a short list.
And that 22 hornet is definitely interesting. I like that they listed the twist since that's a factor for many hornets. I am curious to see if the magazines will allow 40 gr vmax/bt style bullets loaded to the rifling.

Well I guess I won't have the money for a FA revolver after all. I want both of those rifles.

What a horrible thing to see when you are in thin the herd mode. Would be a great elk rifle

JWP's load with CFE223 really wake the 35 Whelen up. What was it, 250s at 2800fps?
