Decided to start a new thread since there was so much excess posted on the last one. I'll add at this point that the gun came from Lipseys. They now have it posted on their website even though Henry does not. www.lipseys.com/itemdetail?itemno=HNH015-360BHThe first thing I noticed is the gun weight and barrel twist rate is the same as my Henry 357 Magnum. I'm sure they used the same barrel blanks. I certainly hope they did as my Henry 357 Mag is the most accurate cast bullet gun I've ever shot. So, I slugged the bore and surely enough it's .357" groove on the nose. I couldn't detect any tight or loose spots. Fit and finish are excellent. Nothing fancy, but well executed. Wood is above average and also is fitting above what it's price range would indicate. Trigger pull is excellent as is my 357 Magnum. My 30-30 is crisp, but definitely requires more weight to pull. It's the oldest of the three, so maybe they've improved this? I dunno... Quite frankly, I prefer tighter bores. They are cast bullet friendly and I've always found most jacketed bullets to be undersized. The 1-16" Twist may or may not be heavy bullet friendly. But, I don't plan on anything heavier than 200 +/- grn anyways. Currently waiting on scope base and hammer extension. Then a range report will most certainly follow...

BTW, my LGS had six boxes of Remington 200 grn ammo. I'll repeat that they "HAD" six boxes. Now, they're out...

I bet that single shot Henry is reliably accurate, looking forward to your range report

Thanks Trent...
I put a hammer extension on it this morning. Waiting on an EGW Scope Base. It's the only one that'll do what I need.
Had to go with a 30mm Scope too. Simply no 1" choices for what I need.
Ditto on a Sight Slot Blank as I'll have to remove the rear sight to use this base.
But, it'll all be worth it in the end...

This is exciting!
I'm glad you are posting updates - thank you.
Whether significant or not, I can't say, but the Handi-Rifles I had in 357 Mag and Max were 1:16" and handled 180, 190 and 200 grain bullets very well indeed. No problem with lighter, either.
When I ordered 357 Mag and 357 Max Contender Carbine barrels at the same time from MGM a few years ago, they called and asked if I minded if the Max were 1:16" instead of 1:14". Apparently, they had material of the length I wanted for the 'Max in 1:16" and wanted to use it up to be able to ship both at the same time. I agreed.
The MAG barrel is 1:14" and shoots just fine. I've not shot the MAX barrel yet, but have to date been happy with 1:16" for the Mag or Max in other guns.

Thanks Jeff...
I got in 500 Stateline 195 grn RN Cast Bullets yesterday as well.
I'll try everything from 158 grn to 200+ grains.
Matt's Bullets has some interesting choices. There's really no limit on available components for 35 Calibers.
If the USPS does me right, it'll be scoped by the end of the weekend...

You will get spoiled with 30mm scopes. That is all I use now. Congrats on your new weapon and please give us a thorough range report.

No Henry's here, a few friends love their leverguns. When I pulled up the website to check out the single-shot, gotta say the weight was about a whole pound heavier than I was expecting. I grew up with a 12ga Topper and 2 best friends had the 20ga version of.. My Single shot experience. But with no real action, no magazine of extra ammo by any means.. Opinions ?

I should have fleshed out the above post some. Like the 350 Legend gaining popularity in upper midwest states per newer regs, the single shot Henry is allowing use in some states primitive seasons. A niche to fill, and then the Rook Rifle thing too.

When you produce an action big enough to build a 12 Gauge on then put a rifle barrel on it, you're gonna have some steel.
Best I can tell, they're all lighter than a Marlin 30-30.
It's like those who ask why Ruger Guns aren't built like Freedom Arms Guns. Of course, they could be. But, then they'd be $3000+ too.
It's all trade offs...

Towards the end of the NEF/1871/Marlin days of the H&R breaktop they got heavy also. Everything from .22bores thru 45 bores all got heavy bull barrels. No where close to the skinny barrels on the original 158 model barrels or the shotgun barrels that were all hole. They were even fluting some of them. Henry barrels look heavy also. I guess they want one profile to fit all fore ends on.

Nope, they're not all the same profile. My 30-30 is considerably lighter and thinner than my two 35s.

This was actually the final straw, which led me away from the (then) "cheap" Handi, to the Contender, regarding which everyone noted that "just a barrel will cost as much as a whole Handi..." With the COntender, you can pretty much order whatever barrel configuration you want. You'll pay for it, but it's a one-time expense with no compromises.
Well, yeah, but the weight on a 22" Handi in 357 was way more than I wanted. Cutting the barrels shorter didn't help near enough. The 300 AAC BLK model, rebored to 357 Mag (and later Max) was an absolute gem for carrying and handling. Yeps, it was harder to shoot well and after forty or so full-house 180s, it sure didn't feel like "no recoil at all," as proclaimed by the manlier of men.
I've been poking around a bit the last few days and have found some load data and a few civil discussions (missing the expected stupidity even) which have been informative. I did get a chuckle out of one comment to the effect that "I'm waiting for the 6.5 Buckhammer to come out so I can buy a 360 Buckhammer cheap..."
I'm pretty much convinced I'm going to do this, but I have to decide whether I want to spring for a new, 24" stainless barrel for the SSK50 or rechamber the blued, 20" 357 Max barrel. Max barrel's paid for and I have brass, so it's not hurting anything if I keep it, but I'm bent on reducing clutter and things to keep track of.
I have pretty much nothing to actually contribute to this thread as yet, but I'm definitely getting something out of it.

The EGW Scope Base came in today. I had the scope and rings. All went together nicely.
As I posted, you have to remove the rear sight to use this base. I've got Marbles Blanks on the way. That'll be easy enough to finish once it arrives.
