Does anyone know of a good place to get a New Model Blackhawk 45 Colt barrel that is 5.5"?
I am wanting to change my 4 3/4 barrel to a 5.5" barrel I think. I looked on ebay but did not see any and gb just brings up full revolvers.

Ask some of the custom gun makers if they have any take-off’s they would sell
I bought a Super Redhawk barrel from Bowen (for the front sight base), he had a few in the shop

Did you check Gunsinternational? The beat GB all to pieces. Best organized "for sale" site on the web.

I think New Frontier barrels are basically drop in for the most part.

I think New Frontier barrels are basically drop in for the most part. Gen 3 Colt barrels have the same shank diameter and thread pitch; earlier ones do not.

Hmmm, if I had a whole gun to trade you I would happily swap and offer up some cash. My only 5 1/2" BH .45 is one of 77 made and a Convertible and not trading fodder.

Do you know the model number or how to identify it? What makes it so special and how would one find out how many were made? I LOVE hearing how many of this or that model were made. Details please sir!

Details please sir! It was the first run of stainless .45 convertibles and was made in 1993, I got it NIB with the shipping carton to boot at a gun show. It was made in three bbl lengths 4-5/8" (KBN44X), 5.5", and 7.5" (KBN-45X) My 5.5" is Prodcode KBN-455x. For years even the guys at Ruger said it was never made. Google the product codes.

That is pretty danged cool. Even Ruger employees didn't know they made them. That makes me wonder how they didn't have it listed in their records. Thank you for the info!

" Even Ruger employees didn't know they made them. That makes me wonder how they didn't have it listed in their records."
Not uncommon. The employees aren't all gun people,, and heck some of the "records" put on the website aren't correct. The good collectors have relied upon the Red Eagle News Exchange for many, many years to get good info.
Now,, if you actually contact Ruger & pay the $10 for a letter,, the true records dept will get you good info.

I bought a 5.5” 45 cal Blackhawk barrel from Reeder several years ago. The guys that do big bore conversions are your best bet. I bought a new 7.5” take off barrel from a Ruger forum member. You post in the classifieds over there.
